This Fall when you are enjoying your beautiful pumpkins on your porch and delicious pumpkin pie in November, take a time to acknowledge how honeybees pollinated those pumpkins.

The pumpkin flowers attract bees by producing sweet nectar, which they take back to the hive to make honey. Pumpkin blossoms are a good source of pollen and nectar, which is important to bees because it's what they eat.

Pumpkins depend on honey bees to carry pollen from pumpkin blossoms across our fields to feed themselves and to help our pumpkins grow.

PLUS, the honeybee is the Kansas state insect.

Monarch caterpillars eat milkweed exclusively. We have milkweed at the patch and the farm so there may be monarchs on the pumpkins.
