Shrooms 2 Grow

Shrooms 2 Grow My goal is to produce local grown mushrooms for restaurants and individuals looking to better their Hi my name is Beth Gayden founder of "Shroom's 2 Grow".

I have had a passion for wild edible mushrooms for years. As an outdoor enthusiast I see mushrooms as the lands coral. Many that grow are choice edibles and some have beneficial heath benefits when eaten or dried and made into a tea or pill form. Mushrooms are great recycle of of organic compounds and are the future of protein in our diets in our over populated world that we live in. They grow in

small spaces and produce no greenhouse gasses that animals produce when being raised for food. With no chemicals, hormones, or antibiotics,; I see mushrooms as the healthy meat of our future.
2 years ago when re-doing my driveway I had an excess of sweet gum trees and had read up about mushroom farming So I decided to give it a try. I started out with wooden dowels from Fungi perfecti. I did 1000 plugs of blue oysters, 1000 pearl, 100 shiitake, 100 lions mane, and 100 sulfur shelf. I then did saw dust spawn shiitake; Double Jewel, from Field and Forest. The wooden dowels from Fungi perfecti have not done that well. But the Field & Forest product did great this year. So Field & Forest has got my business as far as buying commercial spawn. During the winter months I gathered about 600 logs to inoculate for spring 2014. I went to a class put on by the NC department of agriculture in got into a program put on by NC A&T University and Dr Omar and his co workers. There I was able to get shiitake spawn 4 different kinds. The rest I bought from Field and Forest. I have about 600 logs of shiitake and also did 3 kinds of Oysters. Oyster spawn is another product of F&F and is saw dust. Saw dust is defiantly the way to go. All logs are producing now and I will be adding new logs every year. I do hope one day to have the Bubba Gump of the mushroom business in these parts of NC and beyond. I am also an avid mushroom hunter of wild edibles and do hope that with the sale of commercial mushrooms that I can also incorporate a wild edible bunch to the sales list. These will be seasonal but a treasure when found. Like Chanterelle that are a summer flush and only grow in the wild. Thank you for liking my page and feel free to contact me for any questions.
