There has not been a post from Sneaky Peat in over 1367 days. as time marches on with Covid and everything else Sneaky Pete has also undergone a great state of transition. As you may know, the founder of Sneaky Peat, Peter Baker, passed away around this time last year. If this is your first time learning of this, I give you my heartfelt condolences. Pete was my close personal friend, and I share in your heartbreak and loss.

I’m writing today not to share the sad news of Peter‘s passing, but to share the news that there is an intention to continue the Legacy of Sneaky Peat. I am Dr. Eric Hahn. You may have met me as Peat’s friend, chiropractor, or Uilleann Piper. I have been working closely with Peat’s family to secure continued access to his peat reserves. I’m happy to announce that a significant hurdle has recently been overcome, and I can now confidently state that we will be able to continue to offer his O’rigional Irish peat products going forward. There are no definite timelines in place yet, but if you’re seeing this, you are likely as excited as I am to know that you will be able to prepare delicious peat smoked foods and have the heartwarming aroma of Irish peat filling your home for years to come. Irish BBQ for the win!!!! If you have any questions, please feel free to message me here.

Preserving the tradition of Sneaky Peat is a labor of love, but one that needs to fit in with all of the other responsibilities of life. I would be happy to hear from anyone that would like to help in this endeavor.

I know there are among you some chiefs, restaurant owners, and BBQ professionals that have worked directly with Peat in the past. While I’m not quite ready yet to deliver on regular retail customer orders, I would be happy to work with you on enterprise level order needs. Please message me at any time and I will get back to you as soon as it is convenient for me to do so.

And if you really knew my friend Peat, you would appreciate my rambling introduction here. I miss him every day, but am excited to be able to extend a portion of the love he shared through Sneaky Peat with all of the family, friends, and fans that he embraced over his 30 years of loving service.

Dr. Eric

Just in case the thought's out I'm being deliberately without a thought for yerall?
Here's a few catch-ups from yesterday at Raleigh St Patrick's Parade in our Irish Village afterwards.
Guys don't envy about being under-dressed with your girl
Gals don't envy about being under-impressed with your guy!

The very weird tree in the Salisbury (Rhodesia)/Harare (Zimbabwe) park my son Deane-Peter was nearly born under in August 1972.

We lived across the road from the tea garden kiosk to the right.

And yes. The tree was much younger then!!!

And no. That's not my son reminiscing about it with me near the kiosk last year!

But yes. We did reminisce just yesterday in NC - about his times under it as a littlun with his mom and Vi - as we prepared for his family to also join us from OZ for the coming festive season.

Now? Precisely! Who said time doesnt fly like fruitflies like bananas?

Just hanging out with Sneaky Peat and Peter Baker at the Tir Na nOg Kilt Night Irish BBQ on Friday. "Irish BBQ?" What else would you expect on this FB page?
What does it taste like? The specialty Irish Corn in either Irish or Irish-American buttering with a spray of what's also good fer ye, speaks fer itself ... if it could talk? Is that corny or what?
Now meet the Irish BBQ team with its President and First (time sampling) Lady.

And last at least, just a few 'note this' and/or memories for all y'all internationally who pop in here to keep me company in life. Tks and blessings wherever you are in whatever you do and I'll try not to be away for 2.5 months next time. Takes too long to write up!
Pic 1 - For my Cape Town Police Mates. No prizes for the name of a restaurant on the other side of the road of this natural rock formation in a small village South of Cape Town; where I stayed to watch the famous 'World's Largest Timed Cycle Race' between the Indian and Atlantic oceans - which never took place!
So I went there a month later for the famous 'World's most beautiful marathon - The Two Oceans 56km Ultra Marathon' which was re-routed on the day due to riots!
Pic 2 - For my Salisbury/Harare (Rhodesia/Zimbabwe) Amateur Theatre mates. Remember John Findlay backstage? Also a brilliant clockmaker. We attended a huge open day event at one of RSA's renown wineries.
Pic 3 - For Sneaky Peat's American Irish BBQ lovers who now need my Rhodesian/South African BBQ lovers to translate, THIS is BBQ Africa-style at the wine farm. Lamb on a spit (see Sneaky Peat's pigs on spits pix at the Houston BBQ competition). Note the sign 'spitsbraai' where braai here is the Afrikaans word for BBQ.
Pic 4) - Aha! Now for my Irish BBQ mates. Poitjie' (pronounced Poy as in boy followed by 'key') means small pot; ie for cauldron cooking like the Irish were known for. See the small chap in the tent with the pots in front of his pot-belly. They are a must-have for all great BBQs in southern africa - whether or not for cooking 'relish' (ie vegetables with/without seared meat) or Sadza (Rhodie/Zimbo word for cooked white maize fine grind) which is Pap in Afrikaans and both smoother than corn grits.
Pic 5) And now in pig's heaven (well, in America BBQ). For I have just finished some spitted lamb (see bone sticking out of left hand). And I have just started munching from a bag of Cape Malay Samoosas while thinking of finishing it all off with a tub of Ice Cream.
Way to go! And time to go as well. Sorry, the name of the restaurant? Camel Rock of course. Feel daft?

OK Rhodies/Zimbos. Your turn. Hey Glynn Glyn Hall and Peter Peter Mc Clelland, What is the first Pic?
You knew your way around the wild Glynn, and Peter you were wild enough to lose your way behind the Art Gallery after a night opposite at the Golden Dragon in Trafalgar Court; and then stagger into the fish pond Tommy raided for his popular Goldfish Chow Mien?
The location is in the Salisbury/Harare Park outside the Parkview Restaurant. You may recall Merlie and I lived in both Trafalgar Ct and on the other side of the park just after Deane was born?
Yes, I know 'Now THAT's a tree!'
But then 'Now THESE are Mangoes!' when Rhodie/Zimbo ones, like our Avocados, when compared to US and the larger RSA one on the smaller hot plate. Memories are sweeter sometimes hey?
And Yes, the answer to the first question isnt "It's a coupla Zimbos breaking the law," like their police are known for. What kind of tree is that?

Now for my Fairbridge Mates (also included in the Rhodie/Zim Mates to come next) comes next). Pics werent the best but then us lads at the meetup in CT last month were only the best we could be now as well!
Please take note Fairbridgians. If the only one you dont know or remember is the one the birds are looking at, then you are all older than me. Eat your heart out!
For all my other mates, please note I never met these other two in the pix in the first place - although one of them dated the same lucky Fairbridgian as I did, and even then we never compared notes!
So this our first reunion since we went to the same boarding school in Bulawayo last century and I just cant wait for the next one next century.
