Every year around our birthday we donate to an organization in our community. This year for our ten year anniversary we decided to donate to three! The first that we wanted to tell you about is Kentucky Refugee Ministries. What’s our link to KRM? Our bartender Oliver’s partner, Alex, has worked for KRM for several years.
Kentucky Refugee Ministries (KRM) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing resettlement services, support, and resource accessibility to refugees and asylum-seekers in order to promote self-sufficiency, a sense of belonging, and successful integration into our community.
KRM Aims to:
* Compassionately welcome the world’s forcibly displaced people
* Encourage hope through respect, hospitality and providing the tools necessary to rebuild home
* Promote cultural awareness and advocacy for the benefit of the entire community
* Adapt and develop programming to address new challenges and rising needs that have resulted from changing immigration policies
Why is support crucial?
Many refugees and immigrants are losing eligibility for essential food and medical assistance programs. Federal funding for resettlement is heavily diminished. Longterm family separation is increasing financial hardship and challenges for refugees with loved ones stranded overseas. Families now face food insecurity, the risk of becoming unhoused, rising discrimination and mental health concerns. Some are even afraid to leave their homes. More than ever, support to KRM is critical to ensure the preservation of resources for our many refugee and immigrant neighbors rebuilding their lives in our communities.
