Man charged in connection with injured puppy enters plea in Louisville

A man who was arrested after a puppy was found with severe injuries in a Shelby Park neighborhood recycling bin pleaded not guilty during an Oct. 12 hearing.

Danyell Rose, 35, who is also known as Daquawn Buckner, was charged with felony torture of a dog, tampering with physical evidence and cruelty to animals. Jefferson Circuit Court Judge Tracy Davis said she will address his bond during motion hour Oct. 19. According to online jail records, he is currently being held at Louisville Metro Department of Corrections.

The Arrow Fund received a call around 5:30 p.m. Aug. 23 after the puppy, Singer, was found in a recycling bin by a group of boys walking on South Jackson Street near Shelby Park. Initial examinations showed signs the then-9-week-old puppy had been beaten and starved.

Executive Director Shelia Joneleit said once Singer was further evaluated, she was determined to have fractures in her skull and front legs as well as hyphemia, or bleeding in the eye.

In an Oct. 8 Facebook post, a spokesperson for The Arrow Fund said Singer’s medical treatment is complete, and she’s now rebuilding strength and muscle in her front legs.

Rose is next scheduled to appear in court Jan. 12.

The man is facing several charges after a puppy, Singer, was found in a recycling bin in the Shelby Park neighborhood.

We are happy to announce that this man has been arrested in the animal cruelty and torture of Singer. An arrest is not a conviction. However, we just might get there. Due to LMPD’s budget shortages Anitya and I put up the money to do DNA tests on dog hair found in his apartment.

We would like to thank LMPD Lisa Nagle who spearheads LMPD’s animal cruelty division, the Louisville and Jefferson County County Attorney’s office, WHAS radio especially Leland Conway and local TV stations who publicized this cruelty.

SPECIAL THANKS GO TO TERRELL TROTTER OUR INFORMANT WHO PINPOINTED THIS GUY AND WHO, UPON CONVICTION OF THE PERPETRATOR, WILL RECEIVE A $20,000 REWARD FROM ANITYA AND ME PLUS REWARDS FROM OTHER GROUPS.

VERY SPECIAL THANKS GO TO THE ARROW FUND’S NECEY HERRICK AND DOGWOOD VETERINARY CLINIC IN NORTON COMMONS ESPECIALLY DR CHRIS FRANKLIN FOR THEIR EXCELLENT CARE, REHABILITATION AND SOCIALIZATION OF SINGER

It takes a village. Let’s get this guy behind bars and move on to the next one.
