Chocolate Cake Donuts❤️❤️

-This recipe uses sour cream for the most moisture and looks just like a decent chocolate cake recipe. Additionally, they have a rich chocolate cake-like flavor.

Ingredients:

1 cup (5oz/150g) all-purpose flour
1/2 cup (1.5oz/45g) unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/3 cup (2oz/60g) brown sugar
2 tablespoons sugar
pinch salt
4 tablespoons (2oz/60g) butter, melted
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3/4 cup (6oz/180g) sour cream (buttermilk or yogurt)
Chocolate Glaze
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1½ cups powdered sugar
3-4 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
pinch of salt

Directions:

-Preheat oven to 350oF(180oC). Make your DIY Donut tin and grease it with butter. Watchman video to see how you can create your own Donut tin with a cupcake tin and tinfoil.

-Sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, both sugars and salt.

-In a separate jug mix together egg, sour cream, melted butter, and vanilla extract.

-Add the wet ingredients into the dry and gently mix to a smooth batter.

-Add batter to a piping bag or ziploc bag. Cut a corner off to pipe into donut pan wells. Fill them no higher than 2/3 of the way up so they don't bake over.

-Sift together the icing sugar and cocoa powder. Whisk in the milk, vanilla and whisk until the glaze is smooth. You may need to add additional powdered sugar or milk depending on the consistency you like. Dip the top of each donut in the glaze. Serve it warm or at room temperature. Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

Cake donuts

Cake donuts are another popular type of doughnut that get their rise from baking powder. They are denser than yeast donuts because of the cake batter that makes them up. You'll also notice they have a drier texture with more crumbs.

A cake donut can come in a wide range of flavors, from vanilla to chocolate. They can be topped with either powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar.

Vegan Donut

A vegan donut refers to any type of donut made without animal byproducts. Soy, almond, or coconut milk is used instead of cow’s milk while eggs are substituted with a powdered egg replacer or eliminated altogether.

Careful thought is also given to the toppings and fillings. Alternate sugars (turbinado, beet, raw) are often used instead of refined sugar as the latter can sometimes be processed with animal bone char to remove impurities.

Drop Donuts

Drop donuts are similar to donut holes but instead of being taken from the center of ring donuts, they’re made by dropping globs of batter directly into the fryer. They tend to be more irregular in shape than donut holes.

Carrot Cake Donuts (Baked Not Fried)

As much as I love a good cupcake, I’ll choose a baked donut any day of the week. They’re just as tender, and they’re not smothered in frosting.

Not that I don’t like frosting! But I prefer the lighter glaze you find on donuts because it means I can have more than one 🙂

This light carrot cake is the perfect consistency for a baked donut. It’s firm enough to hold its shape but is still lovely and moist inside.

Plus, the excellent addition of toasted coconut makes for such a nice change.

CHURROS

Do churros count as doughnuts? I dare say yes. Churros are long sticks of choux dough fried to perfection and sprinkled with sugar. They're often served with chocolate for dipping. Depending on where you are, you may be able to find them stuffed with dulce de leche or fruit filling. They're popular in Spain and much of the Spanish-speaking world.

Dirt | Voodoo Doughnut

Voodoo Doughnut, a Portland-founded shop that has opened stores elsewhere in Oregon as well as Colorado, California, Florida, and Texas, is responsible for some of the most creative doughnuts out there.
