Not only is today Star Wars Day, it is also the day in 1964 the government defined Bourbon.

Title 27 of the Code of Federal Regulations (27 CFR)

Legal Requirements for Bourbon (27 CFR §5.143)
Origin: Must be produced in the United States.Mash Bill: Comprised of at least 51% corn.
Distillation: Distilled to no more than 160 proof
Aging: Aged in new, charred oak containers.
Entry Proof: Entered into the container for aging at no more than 125 proof.
Bottling: Bottled at 80 proof or more
Additives: No flavorings or colorings allowed. Only Water

Straight Bourbon WhiskeyUnder 27 CFR, straight bourbon must meet all the above requirements and be aged for a minimum of two years. If no age is stated on the label for "straight" bourbon, it is guaranteed to be at least four years old.
Key Definitions and Citations
"Distinctive Product": Congress recognized bourbon as a U.S. product in 1964.
"New charred oak": Specifically means the container cannot have been used for alcohol storage before.
"Bottled-in-Bond": A specific 27 CFR designation for 100-proof (\(50\%\) ABV) whiskey aged at least 4 years and produced by one distillery in one season.
