We have “life verses” for each of our kiddos. Before they were born we would talk and pray over them and choose a scripture we felt the Lord led us to to tuck away in our heart and mind as their parent. More for us than them but you get the idea.
Ry’s is Psalm 139:13-14 “For it was you who created my inmost being: you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I will praise you for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”
I think it is easy to read that verse and find such comfort, as we should. And why we chose it 14yeads ago. We wanted her to remember who made her and formed her - He was her Creator and He doesn’t make mistakes. She was on purpose and for a purpose.
As I’ve aged, I realize the deeper truth of that verse can feel a little unsettling - he made me, formed me, KNOWS me - all parts of me. Not just the parts I am proud of and put out there for the world to see. ALL parts. 😳 Whoa, some not great parts going on and most definitely don’t want people to know them.
BUT, let’s reframe that thought a bit - The King and Creator of all things knows me so intimately and still loves and cherishes me, died for me, desires me. And chose to create me any ways!!! He is gift, the source.
THAT is what I hope Ry knows of this verse, especially as we have entered adolescence. As she changes, grows, matures, screws up, feels all the feels, etc. I hope she tucks this away as well. And as her mom, I need to remember this truth of her.
What I’m trying to say is this: As important as it is for us to know who we are, even more to know Him and His thoughts about us, friends. That is a true anchor, a foundation. Steadfast and always true.
As put it in her devotional (ps - that book is worth a spot on your shelf 😉)…
“Yes, the Lord knows your heart and everything else about you, but KNOWING His heart will set you free to be you and to be His.” 🙌🏻❤️
Glory to Him. All Glory to Him.
