Everybody knows Angus, but there’s something they don’t tell you - they don’t finish well on grass.

In fact due to their size, they almost always rely on a grain finish to get any marbling in the meat.

South Poll Grass Cattle were specifically bred to thrive on pasture and finish on grass with excellent marbling and tenderness.

Their smaller frame also means they’re easier on the environment and matched perfectly for rotational grazing and regenerative farming.

For us, they are the cow in the future. No feedlots required.

SOUTH - they do better in southern heat environments.

POLL - through genetic selection, they’re naturally born without horns. (polled)

Are feedlots a necessary evil?

We don’t think so. We can do better.

We imagine, a world of animal husbandry that involves respect for the animal, the farmer and the consumer.

There’s plenty of farmland to grow every pound of beef in America on green grass and rolling pastures.

If anyone tells you otherwise it’s not the truth. In fact there, there’s enough land in Kentucky alone to feed the entire eastern seaboard.

A drive through the countryside will convince you… we see nothing but opportunity.

We are a small farm, but we’re committed to the effort.

Farming often calls for crazy wild eyed faith that it’s going to work out.

We do have a plan, sometimes it slips into the blurry zone, so we have to always rely on God who put us here.

Our advice? Persevere, God has a plan for you .

We’re new to all of this but, we can tell you. When 4 companies, 2 of which are foreign owned, control over 80% of the market, it’s not good for farmers.

Finally, it looks like we have a president and a secretary of agriculture ready and willing to act - to address the issue.

We’ll see where it goes. Until then, buy local!

Traffic was heavy here on ol’ Buttermilk Bend today.

We’re still working on the details of this little moo cow farm ranch adventure but, hey… it keeps you young, right?

Or… it may kill us. We’ll find out soon enough.

The view from the redneck veranda at the hilltop Hacienda is sure sweet though.

“In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act.”

Well, so much for having a quiet little farm in Southern Kentucky and watching the world stumble along at a safe distance.

Things are different today.

happy Independence Day… or as folks call it - the Fourth of July.

I guess it’s our age, but we never take the celebration for freedom and independence lightly.

Enjoy the BBQ and have a coldie, but never forget how fragile freedom can be, and what a wonderful place, despite the faults this country is. God bless America!

it’s funny, in Louisville we were outside every day, tending the garden - that was very cool.

Here, on the farm in southern Kentucky, we’re also outside every day - but with a broader perspective - observing, walking and interacting with nearly every square inch of this land.

We notice when the creeks are up and when they’re down, when the trees start to bud and when the grass has that first hint of green.

I mean, we are in nature, discovering nature, getting bit by nature and swimming in nature - like never before.

The garden is everything, not just a small plot in a big field.

It’s not so much about ownership as it is stewardship of this land. We are the current occupants for a brief amount of time.

Our goal is simple, take care of this land as best we can, improve it and leave it to the next in better shape than we found it.

because for us farming is about a perfect balance, between the farmer and the creator’s creation.

2025 will be our year.
