Barr Farms

Barr Farms As a 7th generation family farm, we love providing the best quality veggies and meats for your family Taking care of the Earth is important to us!

We are a seventh generation family farm, growing certified organic vegetables for CSA and Farmers' Markets. We also offer mushrooms, eggs, pork, pastured chicken, and 100% grass-fed beef. We manage the fields by adding good compost and healthy minerals to the soil, rotate crops, and move animals the the pastures in a way that increases fertility and is good for the long term health of the land. We

are Adam Barr and Rae Strobel, and farm as part of Adam's family's farm, about 260 acres total. We have a 400 member veggie CSA (Community Supported Agriculture), and raise over 40 different varieties of seasonal vegetables, including lots of greens in the spring and fall, heirloom tomatoes, squash, okra, sweet potatoes, winter squash, broccoli, cabbage, onions, garlic, etc. Each year, we raise 2000 chickens for meat ("broilers") on pasture. We also have a 30 head cow/calf operation where we feed and finish the cows on grass, and sell the grassfed beef at area restaurants and farmers markets, and through our Meat CSA.

It's garlic scape season! Here are some tips for enjoying our favorite curly-que vegetable:

🛍️ Store it: take the rubber band off the bunch. Place in a brown paper bag in the crisper drawer of the fridge. It lasts a couple weeks.

🔪 Use it: use garlic scapes any way you would garlic. Cut off the flower tips. Try making garlic scape pesto, or garlic scape butter!

❄️ Freeze it!: cut into small pieces, and place on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. Place cookie sheet in the freezer for a couple of hours, then remove cookie sheet and transfer frozen scapes into a plastic bag or glass jar to store in the freezer.

What do you like to do with garlic scapes?

It's our first CSA delivery of 2026! On Tuesdays, we get up at 6am to start packing boxes, and are out the door by 9 to get all the freshly harvested and custom packed boxes to you! It's such an exciting day to start these deliveries, knowing we're feeding our community with fresh, organic, local produce. We have two delivery routes. Adam takes to box truck to Louisville, and Alex takes the white van to Radcliff and Elizabethtown. Our friend Nathan happened to be driving and got this amazing photo of the truck crossing the bridge this morning on its way to Corydon at Harmony & Health / LaDonna Frantz ND, RPh then Louisville to all our workplace partners, some home deliveries and finally to the Hill NuLu Farmer's Market !

New CSA pickup location! We pass through Corydon, IN on our way into Louisville from our farm, and for a long time we have wanted to be able to offer a CSA pickup location for our friends in southern Indiana. Now we are!

We are so excited to be partnering with Harmony & Health to offer a convenient pickup location in Corydon. Orders will be delivered to Harmony & Health for pick up on Tuesdays from 12pm- 6pm.

With a CSA subscription, you get great tasting meats and certified organic vegetables each week, or every other week. You get healthy food and support the health of the Earth at the same time. And the best part: it’s fully customizable! Unlike a traditional CSA, you get to choose: customize your cart each week to get what you want, not what you don’t.

We still have a few spaces in our CSA, and signups close out May 15th, so spread the word and don't wait! CSA deliveries begin May 19 and run through the end of October.

We have some hard news to share. We know many of you are looking forward to strawberries this season. They are a highlight among early summer crops. But this year, we won't have any.

There's a fungal disease that's been hitting strawberry plants all along the east coast, and organic growers like us don't have many tools in our toolbelt to fight against it. Last fall we lost all, yes all, of our strawberry plants. đź’”

We are working hard to find solutions like disease resistant cultivars, and in the meantime we'll have lots of other local, organic, seasonal fruit like blackberries, watermelon, and cantaloupe to share with you during the season. Thank you for understanding.

Our market manager wrote the whole story, and you can check it out on our blog: https://www.barrfarmsky.com/blog/the-strawberry-chronicles

Or swipe through these slides for the TLDR (too long, didn't read) version.

We farm for three main reasons:

🌎 Healthy Soil
💪🏼 Healthy People
đź’™ Healthy Community

We care about the land. We are raising our family here on this planet, with a deep appreciation for and connection to the Earth.

And we want to share that with you.

Our goal is to farm organically in a way that improves the soil, increases the nutrients in the food we raise, and builds community along the way.

We know that when we take care of the soil, the food we raise will be nutrient-rich, and healthy for the people who eat it. (that’s you!)

Our goal is for the food we raise to nourish you on many levels…. physically, mentally, and spiritually. So you can have the energy you need to do the amazing things you do in the world. Thanks for being part of our community!

We want your CSA box to be filled with items you want!

That’s why we made sure that the Barr Farms CSA is fully customizable.

CSA members get an email a few days before pickup day letting you know what’s in season. You can keep your share as-is, or you can change quantity, remove items, or add new things to your order. The choice is yours!

If it’s available in our online store, it’s available for you: add meats, veggies, eggs and more.

Not a CSA member yet, but want to be? There’s still time to sign up!
