Common Earth Gardens

Common Earth Gardens Common Earth Gardens, formerly known as the Refugee Agricultural Partnership Program (RAPP) is a program of Catholic Charities of Louisville.

Common Earth Gardens, formerly the Refugee Agricultural Partnership Program (RAPP), supports over 473 refugees to find land and produce food at ten community garden or farm sites in Louisville, KY. Common Earth Gardens’ goals are to empower refugee participants to:

β€’ Utilize their extensive agricultural skills and experience to reduce food costs.

β€’ Continue traditions from their homelands that

will ease acculturation to the Louisville Metro area.

β€’ Build entrepreneurial skills and supplement family income by selling produce through local outlets. The program bolsters mental and physical health, community integration, and access to healthy food and supplemental income. Common Earth Gardens supports self-reliance by facilitating access to land, culturally-appropriate training, community education, technical assistance, and opportunities for supplemental income in Louisville, KY.

Huge thanks to the engineers from CMTA that came out and helped Amir and Mateo get 25 trees in the ground!

Part of our ongoing partnership with Louisville MSD to improve the 7th Street Community Garden(the oldest community garden in Louisville!).

Despite the heat, it was really great to get our hands dirty together, and plant a mix of Serviceberries, Sweet Bay Magnolias, & Redbuds.

Common Earth Gardens partnered with Louisville Grows and Louisville MSD to plant almost 100 trees at our Incubator Farm on Millers Lane.

Folks from Humana, Derby City Gaming Hotel, Brothers United, & Community Credit Union all came out on Arbor Day to get their hands dirty with us! A combination of Oak, Magnolia, Redbud, Serviceberry, & Black Tupelo were planted to beautify the space, as well as offering fruit for farmers, and blooms for native pollinators. The soil was tough, but our volunteers were tougher!

As is traditional at a large tree planting, a cache of small haunted glass bottles were unearthed.
