Happy Birthday to Shawna and Patrick. We officially have two teenagers in the house. They turn 16 and 13 today.

Very proud of Shawna and Patrick yesterday:

Shawna got 2nd in High Jump to qualify for the Area track meet. She also got 2nd in the 400 to qualify to run in the districts final to see if she can move on to Area in the 400. She will also run in 4 x 400 to see if her and her team meets can qualify for Area in that event.

Then last night Patrick’s 12U team played Trinity and won 15-1. With Patrick hitting his first home run over the fence for 3 runs. He then got walked and scored at the next 2 at bats. They all played very well.

Yesterday the 69th Annual Lovelady Calf Show was held. Shawna and us would like to thank all the attendees and those that supported the youth during the last six months. It was an awesome time and many people were very generous and supportive of all the kids.
Shawna would like to send a special thank you to the buyer of her steer (Jordan Scholarship) and all those that added on to her steer. She would also send a big thank you to her Ag Advisors (Cody Kyle, Dustin Perry, and Tannor Knight) these three awesome teachers spent so much time with all the kids assuring they followed the tradition of Lovelady Calf Show and making sure they were prepared to show their steers. Shawna would also say thank you to the Lovelady Administration and Tech Department (Dakota Ham and Alice Ham) for their roles in assuring an awesome day was had by all.
Thank you to all again from the Merchants

Come out and support all the kids at the 69th Annual Lovelady Calf Show tomorrow.

Please see below Shawna’s letter about the upcoming 69th Annual Lovelady Calf Show on 02-24-2024 in which she is showing her first Steer (Nash). Thank you for taking the time to read it…

“Howdy!!
My name is Shawna Merchant, I would kindly request for you to please come and support me and my Steer “Nash” at the 69th Annual Lovelady Calf Show on 02-24-2024. The Lovelady Calf Show is being held at the Lovelady High School Ag Building and it starts at 11:00 am with a BBQ Luncheon for potential buyers and the sale follows at 1:00 pm. The Lovelady Calf Show is a strong tradition for the students in Lovelady and it has been an honor for me to have been selected to participate.
A little about myself; I am a Sophomore at Lovelady High School with straight A grade average making me a member of Beta club. I am also the Vice President of the local 4H Club, the chaplain for the Lovelady FFA, and this year I am an Ambassador for the Houston County Fair. I have been active in 4H since the 3rd grade and Lovelady FFA club since my freshman year when I could join the club. I enjoy Cross Country, Track and participating in Livestock Judging. I also absolutely love raising my show animals whether it be a Lamb, Steer, or Rabbits. The hardest part of raising these animals is having to part with them afterwards. But I endure this as the life lessons I am learning are essential for me to become a responsible adult.

I have worked very hard with Nash and have enjoyed raising a show steer for the very first time. I usually show Lambs and Rabbit’s at the county fair so this was a new experience for me. I plan on using the money I earn from raising Nash towards my college tuition when I graduate from Lovelady. I am planning on a degree at a major university in the science fields. I will also use some of the money towards another show project so it does not cost my parents so much money.

For additional information or wanting to make an early add-on you can please call Dustin Perry (Lovelady Ag Teacher) at 936-222-3202.

Thank you in advance for your support for Nash and I during the 69th Annual Lovelady Calf Show and we look forward to seeing you during the Show.

Sincerely,
Shawna Merchant

Shawna and Nash”
