Governor Abigail Spanberger is asking Virginians to conserve water due to rising concerns of drought conditions.

According to the governor's office, the Commonwealth is experiencing the driest period seen in the state since 1941, adding that as of June 19 precipitation levels are about eight inches below average for much of Virginia.

In partnership with the Virginia Drought Monitoring Task Force, the governor is encouraging Virginians to take voluntary, common sense steps to conserve water use.

🐷 Thinking about bringing a pig into your life? Read this first.

Pigs are incredibly intelligent, emotional, and social animals, but they are not easy pets and they are not short-term commitments. 98% of all pet pigs are rehomed or abandoned because people weren’t given the full picture.

Here’s what matters most:
• They need space to roam, root, and graze, not just a tiny enclosure
• They require pig-savvy veterinary care (not all vets treat pigs)
• They must have another pig companion, they do not thrive alone
• They can live 15–20 years (this is a lifelong commitment)
• They need proper diet, hoof care, and safe, non-slip environments
• They must be kept safe from dogs, even “friendly” ones
• Pigs don’t have fur, therefore need warm & well ventilated houses

Pigs are deeply feeling individuals who form strong bonds and rely on us to meet their complex needs.

❤️ If you’re considering a pig, please do your research first, adopt from a rescue or shelter and if you can’t commit, consider supporting a sanctuary instead.

Equine herpesvirus (EHV) is a family of equine viruses named by numbers including EHV-1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 with EHV-1,3,4 posing the most risk for domestic horses. EHV is a common DNA virus that occurs in horse populations worldwide. The two most common species are EHV-1 and EHV-4.
