Regrouping for a new week ahead. Thanks for all the support this past week and weekend 💚

September is here and we’re heading into some heavy weeks as we prep the farm for fall and winter.

🌸🥗 A little color at the end of a very, very long week.

We’re celebrating the end of one of the wildest weeks we’ve had in a long time with EDIBLE FLOWER SALAD MIX. Because apparently even when everything is a little bit sideways, the garden still insists on making something beautiful.

We worked our asses off this week to bring you whatever we could coax from the fields — harvest, wash, pack, haul, repeat. We’re still catching up. We’re still harvesting. We’re still putting one foot in front of the other and trying to remember where we put the other foot.

But we’ll be at market this weekend with full tables, tired farmers, and a whole lot of gratitude for the people who continue to show up for us.

Did you know Perenn Grocery has our Party Mix on their shelves all summer?

It’s a little edible bouquet of whatever the flowers are feeling like giving us that week — calendula, marigold, nasturtium and whatever else is putting on a show.

Every bag looks a little different because the garden doesn’t believe in repeating itself. We just harvest what’s blooming and make a new arrangement.

We call it the Perenn Party Mix.

I really wish I wasn’t writing this post at 10pm because I’m not entirely sure the algorithm rewards late posting 😂 So, if you’re seeing this, congratulations. You have either defeated the algorithm or the algorithm has taken pity on us.

HOWEVER…

If you are one of the few people who made it this far, I hope we’ve successfully interrupted your scrolling because LOOK AT THESE 🧄🌸

These garlic braids and garlands are colorful, ridiculous, beautiful, and honestly making me feel a little better about the fact that our flower field did not exactly have its best year.

Admittedly, the flower field took a pretty big hit this season. A lot of our crop plans failed for various reasons, and compared to last year’s full, lush, wildly colorful field, this year was…well…not only a character-building experience, but a sacrificial garden for the bees 😂

I’m still not entirely sure what happened. We did the planning. We did the seed starting. We did the planting. We watered. We worried. We replanted. We stared at the sky. We questioned our life choices.

And yet, somehow, the flowers that did survive are absolutely showing off.

Some of the dried flowers we had planned for the field are finally coming into their own, and I’ll likely get a few more harvests from the survivors. For now, the very first (and very little) of what we’ve been able to harvest has made its way into these garlic braids and garlands.

And I hope you love them as much as we do.

Because there really isn’t a price tag that quite captures what goes into one of these.

It’s interesting what a headline can do.

A month ago, almost no one was asking us how we wash our greens, where they were grown, or who harvested them. The last couple of weeks, it’s become one of the first questions people ask.

And honestly? We’re glad.

Not because anyone wants another food safety story, but because people are finally asking the questions that have always mattered: Who grows my food?!

We can’t speak for every farm or every bag of greens sitting on a grocery store shelf.

But we can speak for ours.

We know who seeded every tray, harvested every bunch, washed it, packed it, and loaded it into the truck. Tomorrow morning, those same hands will probably be the ones placing it into yours across the farmers market table.

That’s the beauty of buying local. Your food doesn’t come from an anonymous supply chain. It comes from people you can actually meet.

We hope you’ll taste the difference. But even more than that, we hope you’ll feel the difference.

Confidence that you know where your food came from. Confidence to that your food isn’t contaminated or sprayed with chemicals. And confidence to take the first bite (and the second, third and fourth) without giving it a second thought.

In a world where food has become anonymous, we think your farmer should be someone you can look in the eye.

We had a really beautiful week.

Not because farming suddenly got easier (it most certainly did not), but because we had so many meaningful conversations with all of you. About food. About farming. About where our vegetables come from and why that actually matters.

And we just wanted to say thank you.

Thank you for showing up week after week. Thank you for believing in this little farm. Thank you for rooting us on; not just as farmers, but as people.

We genuinely could not do this without you.

This week, with the CDC’s findings making headlines, it felt like something clicked for a lot of people. They’re starting to connect food to place. Farm to plate. Farmer to family.

That’s a conversation we’ve been trying to have for years. It reminds us that we’re growing something much bigger than vegetables out here in Long Valley. We’re growing relationships. Trust. A different way of thinking about food.

And on the days when farming feels impossibly hard (which, to be fair, is quite a few of them), that makes every early morning, every long harvest, every broken irrigation fitting, every broken down truck and every sunburn absolutely worth it.

So thank you.

For trusting us.

For feeding your families with our food.

And for reminding us, every single week, why this work matters.

You know what feels like a pretty safe bet these days? Buying your food directly from the people who grew it.

We’ll have the best of summer (and then some) piled high at both farmers markets this weekend. The crew absolutely busted their bums this week to bring in an incredible harvest, and we’d love nothing more than to see it head home with all of you.

Come hungry, bring a tote bag, and say hello.

At long last, the tomato house is starting to look like it got the memo.

The heat finally showed up (fashionably late, as usual) and the tomatoes are responding accordingly. We’re hopefully done playing Frost Roulette for the year, which means we can stop checking the weather app every fifteen minutes and start focusing on more important things: juicy, sun-warmed tomatoes dripping down our chins, ruining perfectly good shirts.

The plants are loaded with little green fruits, quietly plotting their transformation. They’re setting beautifully; now we’re just waiting for them to trade their green jackets for something a little more scandalous. Once that happens, tomato season is officially upon us.

With this weekend’s heat, we’re hoping to see the first blush of color show up. And once that starts, it’s over. There will be tomatoes everywhere… on sandwiches, on cutting boards, in the passenger seat of the truck, and hopefully making their way into your kitchens 🍅☀️
