Dahlias were planted recently and are starting to come up. We will have 10 varieties this summer. Look for these customer favorites in late July.

I'll be at the Bellville Farmer's Market tomorrow 9-12noon. The sun should be shinning! I have bouquets of spring flowers including peonies as well as asparagus and rhubarb.

It's International Family Day and I am so very grateful for my family and the uniqueness of each of my three boys. My oldest (mid 20s) calls me "mama" and I love it. I didn't raise him calling me "mama." His two younger brothers don't call me "mama." But he does. And I love him for it.

FLOWER OF THE MONTH - BACHELOR BUTTONS!
Bachelor buttons, also known as cornflowers, ragged soldiers, or bluebottles are easy-to-grow annuals that thrive in full sun and well-drained soil. Let some of them go to seed and they will reseed themselves for next year. They produce a profusion of classically bright blue, but do come in other colors such as pink, burgundy and white. They are a charming addition to cottage gardens and cutting gardens alike.
In flower arrangements, their vibrant color and delicate, fringed petals add texture and a touch of whimsy. Harvest them when the blooms are just starting to open, and strip the lower leaves to help them last longer in the vase. They're especially striking in wildflower-style bouquets and pair well with other soft-textured flowers.

Yesterday was lisianthus planting day - over 600 plants! This year I am trying landscape fabric. As anyone who grows lizzies knows they are beautiful, but they are slow growing and are best planted tightly for maximum stem length. With that in mind I have tried biodegradable mulch, bare soil with compost mulch, straw mulch and always end up with tons of w**ds! So we'll see if landscape fabric is the answer to the w**d issue!!
