The planting stage is officially underway here at Nickelson Christmas Trees! 🌲💚

Tiny seedlings are finding their new home in our fields, where they’ll spend the next several years growing into future Christmas memories for families near and far. It’s one of the biggest reminders that Christmas trees are truly grown with patience, care, and a whole lot of hope.

Every tree starts small… and today, we’re planting the future of Christmas on the farm. 🌱✨

Another night of frost protection. And yes, it might sound a little crazy… but we spray water on our seedlings when it gets cold! 🥶🌲

As the water freezes on the plants, it actually releases heat. That thin layer of ice keeps the buds right at about 32°F, protecting them from colder air temperatures that could damage them and helps ensure a strong crop later.

So while it may look like our fields are covered in ice, those buds underneath are staying safe and snug!

Last night and the few nights previous are the perfect example—temps dipped low, and we were out there making sure this year’s crop is protected for all of you.

🌱 Big things start small… 🌱

We’re hopeful to begin planting new seedlings at the tree farm next week! There’s something special about this season—tiny trees going into the ground, beginning a journey that will take years to grow into the Christmas memories your families bring home. ❤️🎄

Each seedling we plant now is a future centerpiece, a future tradition, a future moment gathered around with the people you love most.

We’ll be watching the weather closely and getting ready to get our hands dirty! Stay tuned—we can’t wait to share this next step with you.

Rainy days on the farm aren’t always what we want… but they’re exactly what our trees need 🌧️🌲

We’re so thankful for the rain soaking into the soil, giving strength and life to every seedling and tree growing in our fields. Even on the gray days, there’s good happening beneath the surface.

Now… we won’t lie—we’re also looking forward to those warm, sunny days ahead ☀️

Because around here, a little rain + a little sunshine = healthy, beautiful Christmas trees for your family to enjoy ❤️

🎄 Ever wonder how long it takes to grow a Christmas tree?

From seed, a tree will spend about 2–3 years growing in a seedling bed. After that, most of our Fir trees are carefully dug up and moved to a transplant bed where they grow for another 1–2 years.

Then comes another big move — we plant them into our Christmas tree fields where they will grow for about 7 more years before most reach that classic 6–7 foot Christmas tree height.

That means the tree in your living room is usually about **10–12 years old** from seed! And if you want a taller tree, you can typically add about another year of growing time for every extra foot.

Tree farming teaches patience, and we love being part of the long journey that leads to your family’s Christmas traditions. ❤️🌲

🌱 Seedling season has officially begun at Nickelson Christmas Trees!

We’ve started pulling our young seedlings — the very first step in growing the Christmas memories families will make in the years ahead. It’s amazing to think these tiny trees will one day be part of someone’s Christmas morning. 🎄

Many of these seedlings will be carefully packed and shipped to other Christmas tree farms around the country, while we keep some right here on our farm to transplant into our own fields. In the coming years, those same little trees will become the Christmas trees your families come to choose and cut.

There’s a lot of hard work behind the scenes this time of year, but we love every minute of it because we know what these little trees will become.

Thank you for supporting our family farm through every season — not just Christmas. ❤️
