Nickelson's Strawberries Started in 2018 by Preston & Ben Nickelson, we are a U-Pick strawberry patch in Ludington MI.

We can be found on the South West corner of Dennis Rd and Hansen Rd.

Due to the incoming rain and cooler weather, we’ll be closing the U-Pick strawberry patch a little early today at 2:00 PM.

Be sure to stop back out Friday or Saturday from 9:00 AM–3:00 PM to pick up some fresh, sweet Michigan-grown strawberries!

They’re the perfect treat to enjoy during Gus Macker weekend. 🍓☀️

Due to a family event, we will be closing early today at 2:00 PM.

Just a reminder that we are closed tomorrow (Sunday) and will reopen Monday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

What an amazing opening day of strawberry picking! 🍓

A huge thank you to everyone who came out to pick berries, visit the farm, and kick off the season with us. We loved seeing so many families enjoying a beautiful day in the patch.

We’ll be closed tomorrow to give the berries a chance to ripen up, but we’ll be back open Friday from 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM with more fresh, sweet Michigan-grown strawberries waiting for you.

Finally, the wait is over!

🍓 Opening Day for Nickelson’s U-Pick Strawberry Patch is Wednesday, June 10th! 🍓

Hours will be 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM.

Our Michigan-grown strawberries are looking beautiful, and we're excited to welcome everyone back to the patch for another season of fresh-picked summer memories.

We will have a limited amount of pre-picked berries available, as we are still early in the season, so plan accordingly if you're looking for ready-picked strawberries.

Bring the family, enjoy the fresh air, and pick some sweet, juicy strawberries straight from the field. We can't wait to see you!

It’s almost time for Nickelson’s U-Pick Strawberry Patch to open!

Here’s your first taste of the 2026 strawberry season. The berries are looking beautiful, and if all goes as planned, we’ll be opening sometime next week. Keep an eye on our page for the official opening announcement.

Fresh, sweet, juicy, Michigan-grown strawberries are almost here and ready to become part of your summer traditions. Whether you’re filling a bucket, making jam, baking a pie, or just enjoying them by the handful, strawberry season is one of the best parts of summer.

Another night of frost protection. And yes, it might sound a little crazy… but we spray water on our strawberries when it gets cold! ❄️🍓

When temperatures drop below freezing, those beautiful blossoms are at risk. And no blossom = no strawberry later on. So here’s the trick:

As the water freezes on the plants, it actually releases heat. That thin layer of ice keeps the blossoms right at about 32°F, protecting them from colder air temperatures that could damage them.

The same goes for our newer seedlings—those fresh buds are especially susceptible to frost, so protecting them now helps ensure a strong crop later.

So while it may look like our fields are covered in ice, those blooms underneath are staying safe and snug!

Last night was a perfect example—temps dipped low, and we were out there making sure this year’s crop is protected for all of you.

Strawberry season is on the horizon… and we can’t wait for you to come pick with us! 🍓

Even though it’s still feeling pretty cold outside, there’s something exciting happening in the fields… our strawberries are starting to flower 🍓

That means one thing — delicious, Michigan-grown you-pick strawberries are on the horizon!

Last night temperatures dropped to around 27°, so we were out frost protecting these plants to keep those blooms safe. It’s a lot of work behind the scenes, but it’s all worth it to bring you the best berries possible.

We’ll keep doing everything we can to protect this crop so you and your family can enjoy fresh, sweet strawberries straight from the field very soon.

Summer is closer than it feels! 🌱🍓

We’re OPEN this morning, Tuesday (9:00–11:30 AM) for FREE picking to close out the season!
There are still some small but delicious Michigan-grown strawberries out in the field – come grab the last of them!

🍓 That’s a Wrap for the Season! 🍓

What an amazing year it’s been at the U-Pick Strawberry Patch! A heartfelt thank you to all our wonderful returning customers and families — and a big welcome to those who visited us for the first time this season. We’re so grateful for your support, smiles, and berry-filled memories!

While our patch is now closed for the season, we encourage you to stop by the Orchard Market in Freesoil, which is still open and full of fresh offerings.

We’re hosting our annual “Pick for a Donation Day” on Tuesday, July 1st from 9:00 AM to Noon. Bring your own container and pick what’s left in the field — any donation is appreciated and goes right back into caring for the patch.
