A fun fact for y'all: banana trees aren't actually trees; they’re the world's biggest herbs. They are "one and done," meaning once a stalk produces fruit, it dies and won't produce again. But they produce "pups" or offspring that grow up to become the next trees, continuing the cycle of provision.

Just like animals, we as humans need to deworm and detox because many of us are walking around with untreated parasites. I’m doing research for my own dewormer, and the three big herbs recommended are wormwood, black walnut husk, and cloves. Bitter herbs are often the healthiest because they help cleanse your body internally.

Trump and Iran have announced a deal aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and markets are responding positively. Oil prices have fallen, investors are optimistic, and many people are hoping for economic relief. But what should homesteaders, gardeners, and self-sufficient families do now?

In this video, I share why improving economic conditions should not be a reason to stop preparing. In fact, good times are often the best time to build skills, grow food, strengthen your homestead, and become more resilient.

Here is a major cheat code: don’t throw away your chicken or turkey bones. Wash them off, put them in the oven or air fryer until they’re really crispy, and then grind them up in a food processor. Now you’ve got free bone meal that’s rich in phosphorus to help your root crops grow.

Coffee Chat: You Have Something Worth Copying

We just got some more onion bulbs in the ground yesterday, so I’m making sure this bed stays watered in good. This is our onion and sweet potato bed, and because we eat a lot of onions here, I’m always adding more. Proper moisture is key to getting these bulbs to sprout and take off.

I learned the hard way through research that you shouldn’t feed your worms citrus. They love most organic matter like vegetable scraps, but citrus is a no-go. What they really love is watermelon rinds, cantaloupe rinds, and cucumbers.... they’ll eat that stuff up so quick.

If you want to farm worms in bins, you have to choose the right species. Red worms, or red wigglers, are the best for vermiculture because they reproduce quickly and thrive in a bin environment. Nightcrawlers are great, but they do better in your regular garden soil or raised beds where they have room to travel deep.

When you're starting a worm bin, you've got to provide the right bedding, which is usually carbon-based. I like to use broken-up cardboard at the bottom, then layer it with grass clippings and leaves. Top that off with some soil and compost, and you’ve got a perfect home for your worms to start turning trash into "black gold".
