What happened to the Farm days we had planned for this summer. 2 very significant things stopped all of our plans. The first significant event was, the pigs. Despite all my best efforts to block every way the pigs could get out, they got out of their pen several times, and when they discovered the garden, yep, they came in like a wrecking ball and ate everything from ripe to eating the vines. Then an angry Oklahoma summer entered and as you can see by the pictures, finished up the job of devastating the garden, while even watering every day. To say this all has been a disappointment is an understatement.

This triple digit constant heat and no rain has been so hard on the animals as well. The chickens stopped laying and I lost 3 hens during the summer.

My dreams of seeing a flourishing and fun place for people to visit and get some fresh veggies and fruits did not come about this year. I am sorry.

Tears wiped away, disappointment behind, Summer of 2026 will soon be tucked away, with lessons learned and hopes this kind of summer doesn’t return again, but, it is Oklahoma………🤷‍♀️

There are things in life that don’t work out as one plans. I’ve had an ongoing issue with the pigs getting out of their pen. Sadly, a few days ago they discovered the garden and though the garden is fenced, they pushed through the fence to demolish my melon crop. Beautiful watermelons, canalope and honeydew melons were flourishing, and for the most part are now gone. This event has changed the course of direction this summer.

When you’re a coffee freak and need a coffee run, but, you have baby chicks you just picked up and it’s hot, so, you just take them in the grocery store with you 😆🐣🐥

Did I mention everything grown on the farm is truly organic? No chemicals whatsoever used on any of the plants! Watermelons are coming on strong, followed by the cantaloupes and honeydew!
