H**P vs PINE PELLETS
Out of curiosity, I just did a very unscientific experiment with my last hatch and set up 2 brooders - one with the pellets and the other with h**p bedding with an equal number of chicks in each. All chicks were initially in the h**p brooder, topped with 5 days worth of potty pads that were peeled away daily until day 5, when the chicks (42 total) were separated equally into 2 brooders and both the pine pellets and the h**p layer were exposed.
Honestly both were on par odor wise after week 2 and both covey were p**p ball free on their feet. The h**p was easier to clean out (lighter in weight), but the pine pellets were cheaper, although used a little more volume wise. I’m pretty much calling it a tie at this point but am considering a longer trial period with the grow-outs in the 4x4 pens.🤔
