Today's blizzard is undoubtedly severe, but one comforting sight is the milk hauler. Notably, most farm insurances do not cover milk dumping due to storms, contrary to popular belief. Although the USDA may offer coverage in the event of an emergency declaration, with potential payment 12 to 18 months from now, it's generally more efficient to have the milk picked up and processed as usual. Thus, we extend our gratitude to the milk haulers and cheese plant employees who ensure continuity. 🐄🥛🧀

Stop on out at Luxemburg-Casco High School Friday, February 6th to support Sting Cancer! It’s their annual “Yellow Night” fundraiser during the girls basketball game vs Denmark! We are happy to support LC Sting Cancer by donating this “Cozy Coffee Cow” basket to the bucket raffles! Funds from this fundraiser will go towards purchasing gift cards, making blankets, baskets, and chemo care packages for people in our community who are affected by cancer.

Stop on out at Luxemburg-Casco High School Tuesday evening, September 23rd for their Volleyball PINK OUT night! Match times 5:30 & 7:00. We are happy to support their fundraising efforts towards RIBBON OF HOPE by contributing this basket to the bucket raffles! They’ll also have 50/50 raffles! Hope to see you there! 🏐🩷🐮🩷☕️

With our fan addition and wiring project that is currently going on here on the farm, Bryce has been here for Youth Apprenticeship working for REB Electric. Luxemburg-Casco High School has a great YA program.

So excited to see this happening! 👀🤩
All winter we’ve been planning for more ventilation and exhaust fans to keep the ladies more comfortable in summer, and Rob Balza and his crew from REB Electric are doing a lot of prewiring. Their team is quickly finding out that cows are very inquisitive and love to lick and sniff their tools! After most of the wiring is up then the fans and equipment will be installed. 🥳

We took advantage of some nice December weather and had more field tile installed. This helps lower the water level in the ground. The tile is around 3 feet deep and on this field it is in 30 foot laterals, these laterals are connected to a main and then the water is discharged to its lowest point usually in a water way down slope. Crops grow the best when there’s 50% soil, 25% oxygen and 25% water in the root growing zone. Tiling also helps control surface water from leaving the field after heavy rain events that would carry away fertilizer and soil particles because it helps the ground absorb the rain, like a sponge.
This machine that is installing it uses GPS to keep it steering correctly and LIDAR for proper sub inch placement of the tile to allow it to work as designed.
It is our belief that that the number one item that helps crops to grow to their full potential is proper drainage, and fertility is next. We strive to have a healthy root system to take up all the water and nutrients for maximum yield.
