Literally one of the coolest things about employing high school students as a small business is watching them grow after they leave the farm. I should have done this weeks ago, but today - I would like to take a moment to shine a spotlight on our former employee Salena H. Salena was one of our veggie crew from back in 2011(?)-2016(?) and from what I have heard, she often credits her time at the farm as when she fell in love with ag.

Well, earlier this summer, I was lucky enough to be able to take a few minutes out of my farm duties to watch Salena defend her PhD on Wild Bee Pollination🐝🐝🐝 .

Watching a woman I had the privilege of working with as a student (and employee) grow, pursue her passion, and earn this degree is incredibly rewarding.

Her hard work, curiosity, dedication, and commitment to agriculture are truly inspiring. Her work with bee's is amazing - and although based in Washington, could easily be transferred to our blueberry farms here in Maine! 🫐🫐🫐🫐

Although Salena might never pick another cucumber here at the farm, or pose for a FB post with the corn, the least we can do here at the farm is say: "Congratulations, Salena! We're so proud of you!"🐝🐝🐝🐝

🌼 Sunny beautiful day reminder that your hosta flowers, dill blooms, and wild yarrow all make great bouquet additions (as does your planted yarrow, and your other cut flowers)! Don’t forget to enjoy the blooms you grew! 🌼

Jonathan had the opportunity today to host a tour of the farm as well as one of our solar grazing sites! We welcomed the Illinois Young Farmers to Maine and showed them the way we have diversified over the last 20 years. BlueWave Solar met us on site and were there to talk with those interested in the grazing and sustainability of agrivoltaics (aka farming under solar). It was great to hear all the questions the young farmers had about cattle, sheep, and crops here in Maine. They have spent the last week touring New England and seeing the way we farm in our shorter growing seasons and on smaller acerages! We wish them luck on their travel back to Illinois and hope they got some cool ideas to take home to their farms!

🥩 2pm update- you guys rock. We sold over 25 meat packages today! That being said. I am out of all of the posted packages except I have 1 of #1 left. Now, I am going to regroup and see what’s left to offer.

Man I hope you guys didn’t sleep on our new Moldavian Dragonhead this year. The bouquets are really holding up well with it! Such a cool new herb/cut flower/pollinator. It’s the purple in the back!

Did anyone else try any of our stuff for the first time this year? Or any of our new stuff and love it? Show us some pics in the comments! Or, is something just doing great? We’d love to see!

***12:00 UPDATE: All halves currently PENDING - if I haven't responded to you yet, I might still once I get final confirmation, but currently all slots are filled.

A very strange occurrence - we have a few halves of beef available in our next butcher dates (October/November). Cost is $6/lb hanging weight! Anyone interested? Send us a message ASAP if you are! I will work my way through in order of message timestamp....
