Yesterday absolutely wore us out, but we felt so much love from everyone! 🥹

We haven't even finished cleaning up from last night, and we're already gearing up for another packed week. Kevin's working all day, I've got a 6 hour round trip to restock our Asian ingredients, and somehow we still need to clean up from the weekend and prep for more pop-ups. I was also planning to catch up on grading today, but clearly life had other plans 😭

Let Kevin make you lunch on the longest day of the week! We're kicking things off with our Asian Pear Bulgogi Beef, plus Vietnamese Coffee and Thai Tea Tiramisu for dessert!

📍 Trivia Night at Olde Salem Brewing Company

B**r, bowls, and brain cells! Don't forget to ask for "The Mark" our secret Olde Salem menu item. 👀

We're also bringing out our Herb Yuzu Crema, Ube White Chocolate Cake, and Five-Spice Caramel Apple Cake, available through Friday! 🤤

📍 Halloween Midweek Market at Golden Cactus Brewing

Local vendors, b**r, rice bowls, our new specials, AND a pet costume contest?! Honestly, we're mostly excited to see the pets in their little outfits. 🐶

📍 Rustburg Ruritan Community Farmers Market

Kevin's favorite market is coming to an end for the season! Come shop local one more time, support your favorite vendors, and let us handle dinner (and dessert)! 🙏

🎉 FRIDAY | 6-9pm
📍 Buzzard Fest | Chatham

We're heading back to Chatham for Buzzard Fest with our rice bowls and weekly specials! At this point, Kevin has been out feeding people five days straight. Someone please make sure this man gets some sleep 😭

We're taking an actual weekend off to spend some much-needed time together and with friends! We will be out and about in Roanoke with our fun couples costume (thanks for the idea Big Lick Brewing Company...they're hosting an EDM night and you'll catch us there!)

Another chaotic week for our little two-person operation, but we're so grateful you all keep showing up for us! 🥰

We had a great time on The 540 today! 📺❤️

It’s been an exciting journey growing Love + Umami, and we’re grateful for the opportunities to share our story and introduce more people to our food. A big thank you to Ari and Caroline for having us and making the interview such a fun experience! Yes, we can confirm the studio couch is very comfortable! 😂

This has officially been our craziest Love + Umami weekend to date! Kevin and I were in the kitchen until 2am Friday night after both working all day, completely forgetting to eat dinner ourselves 😩

We sold out at Chatham Hall’s IEA Show yesterday and Black Dog Salvage’s The Dog Bowl Market today, all while pulling off our biggest catering order ever! What makes it even more special is that our catering client owns a business here in Lynchburg that Kevin and I are both customers of, so getting to support each other like this really means a lot! 🥹🫶🏼

Anyway, we are exhausted and definitely need a couple of days to recover, but here’s where you can find us this week!

🍚 WEDNESDAY 10/21 | The Rivermont Farmers Market | 3-7pm
Kevin is bringing our ginormous rice cookers out for one of the last markets of the season! Come grab dinner and shop all the wonderful local farmers and vendors! 🛍️

🌾 THURSDAY 10/22 | Rustburg Ruritan Community Farmers Market | 3-7pm
Kevin is back at one of his favorite farmers markets for another one of the last markets of the season! Get your fresh local goodies while you still can, and maybe grab a rice bowl too! 🫰🏼

🎨 FRIDAY 10/23 | Heart of Nelson | 5-8pm
After spending the week teaching, it’s finally my turn to see everyone! Come support some local art while enjoying our rice bowls, which are basically edible art if you ask me!! 😂

🎃 SATURDAY 10/24 | Old Southwest, Inc. Halloween Lantern Parade & Festival | 5-10pm
Kevin is heading to Roanoke for a spooky Saturday night! Come enjoy the lantern parade, Halloween festivities, and some good food! 👻

Good morning everyone!! ⛅️

Sneaking in a quick Facebook post during my break at work because we gained so many new followers overnight?! 😭

First of all, WELCOME!! 🥹

For those who are new here, I’m Amy and I’m just a girl teaching chemistry full-time and making food with my husband Kevin, who keeps this whole operation running while being my biggest fan and #1 taste tester. 😂❤️

A few quick things for our new friends!

This Week:
Today (6:30-9:30pm at Wolfbane Productions for the Addams Family)
Saturday (11am-3pm at Chatham Hall for IEA Riding Show)
Sunday (11am-4pm at Black Dog Salvage The Dog Bowl Market)

🍱 Special orders and catering require at least 2 weeks’ notice so we can coordinate our schedules, ingredient procurement, and existing pop-ups.

❤️‍🔥 Please be patient with us! It’s mostly just the two of us running this whole thing, with occasional help from our amazing friends. Kevin handles our weekday pop-ups while I’m teaching, and outside of that, we’re usually either in the kitchen prepping or out at another pop-up! We’d love to be everywhere and say yes to everything, but unfortunately, I haven’t figured out human cloning in the lab yet! 🥲

📰 Exciting news! You can catch us in Lynchburg Living Magazine for the rest of October and we have a local TV news feature coming soon. Still wild to us that our little side hustle small business is getting this much attention! 😩

Hope everyone is staying safe, warm, and dry with all this yucky weather. Kevin and I are taking full advantage of a rainy Sunday (aka rest day), so we’re off until Tuesday!

🧠🍚 TUESDAY | Olde Salem Brewing Company | 5-8:30pm
It’s fall break at my college, which means I actually get to join Kevin for a weekday pop-up!! We’re bringing brain fuel in the form of rice bowls and desserts for trivia night. Also, a news station might be stopping by to interview us, so there’s a chance you’ll make a surprise TV cameo while stuffing your face with our food 😂

⚽🤝 WEDNESDAY | Three Roads Brewing - BURG | 6-9pm
We’re joining Hill City FC for their Small Business Meetup! We had the pleasure of serving at their home games during their inaugural season, and we’re so excited to keep growing together as we both head into year TWO!

Even better, we’re doing this at Three Roads, one of the very first establishments that opened their doors to us when we started this crazy little business 🥹

We’re grateful for both of them and everything they do to bring our local communities together! 🥰

🎭🕸️ THURSDAY | Wolfbane Productions – The Addams Family | 6:30-9:30pm
We’re heading to Appomattox for a delightfully spooky evening with Wolfbane! Bringing the full spread of rice bowls, desserts, and drinks. Come get your dinner and a show! 🖤

🏇🍚 SATURDAY | Chatham Hall – IEA Horse Show | 11am-3pm
Kevin is heading to Chatham to feed all the hungry riders, families, and spectators! Nothing like some good Asian food between watching horses do things neither of us could ever do 😩

🐾🛍️ SUNDAY | Black Dog Salvage – The Dog Bowl | 11am-4pm
I’m wrapping up the week with a chill Sunday in Roanoke! Bringing rice bowls and desserts while hanging out with local makers, artists, and all the cool finds at Black Dog Salvage. A little shopping and a little eating sounds like my type of Sunday! 🤩

I’m usually not the one out selling on weekdays anymore, but this is one event I really wanted to be there for 💚

Tomorrow, we will be popping up at Centra in support of NAMI- Lynchburg ’s Mental Illness Awareness Week!

This one is a little more personal to me. As someone who has recovered from mental illness, I know firsthand how important it is to have a supportive community. During my own recovery, I turned to my local NAMI chapter for support, so being able to show up for this event means a lot.

I’m especially excited to feed the staff who dedicate so much of their time, energy, and compassion to caring for others in our community. Y’all deserve some love (and some good food) too! 🫶

Happy fall! 🍂

Our fall specials are finally here… better late than never!!

🧡 Thai Tea Tiramisu 🧡
Thai tea tiramisu topped with Thai tea mochi and sweetened condensed milk cream. It’s the ✨PERFECT✨ fall color, and if you love tiramisu but aren’t a coffee person, this one is for you! 🥳

🍎 Five Spice Apple Caramel Cake 🍎
Spiced sponge cake layered with caramel cream and cinnamon sugar apples with a little five spice, topped with caramel candy bits. Basically our take on a caramel apple/apple pie situation! 🥧

Both will be on the menu at some of our pop-ups this week…cough cough The Rivermont Farmers Market, Rustburg Ruritan Community Farmers Market + The BiblioPub. After that, they’ll rotate through our fall dessert lineup depending on the week and our prep schedule 😂

Yesterday was a rainy one, so I spent most of today recovering with lots of soup after standing out in the cold rain. It’s now 8pm and instead of continuing to rest, I decided this was the perfect time to start experimenting with fall specials 😭

The chemist in me never turns off apparently. If Kevin approves of tonight’s experiments, you might see them on the menu starting this week. We’ll see how this goes! 🧪🍂

This week we’re bringing our customizable rice bowls, a rotating dessert selection, and possibly whatever I’m currently making in the kitchen to:

Kevin will be holding down the tent! Come grab dinner and shop local produce, meats, artisan goods, and more right here in Lynchburg 🙏

🍚 THURSDAY | DOUBLE HEADER
Kevin is getting the boot from his favorite farmers market because I’ll be at Rustburg Ruritan Community Farmers Market from 3-7pm this week! I never get a chance to be out there so come shop local with me and let me take care of dinner! 🤤

Meanwhile, Kevin will be at 5 Points Music Sanctuary from 6-10pm with Steely Dead performing so be ready to hear the golden era of rock and roll. There’s a full bar inside, so if he’s not in the tent when you get there… you know where to find him 🍺

🍚 FRIDAY | NAMI- Lynchburg at Centra Behavioral Health (Simons Run) | 4:30-7:30pm
I’ll be popping up for NAMI’s Mental Illness Awareness Week. As someone who lives with mental illness, I really appreciate the work they put into our community. Come grab some Love + Umami, show them some support, and learn more about their programming! 💚

We’re back in Roanoke for Date My Friend Pitch Event hosted by Get2KnowNoke and !

Fun fact: Kevin and I met through a pitch event kinda like this… except ours happened through a Facebook group. So naturally, we support the cause! 🥰
