Long dahlia stems don’t happen by accident….

Most people simply deadhead their dahlias removing the spent flower and leaving the stem behind. The plant will happily keep flowering but it won’t magically produce another long stem from the top.
If you’re growing dahlias for cutting you have to think like a florists.
Instead of just removing the flower, cut much deeper into the plant, always just above a pair of leaf nodes. That’s where the new shoots will emerge, and by cutting lower down you’ll encourage the plant to produce longer replacement stems that are perfect for bouquets. 💐
