Black Currant Season is Getting Closer 🖤

The berries are getting bigger every day as we count down to one of our favorite harvests of the year.

If you've never tried black currants before, they have a bold, distinctive flavor and are packed with vitamins, antioxidants, and anthocyanins. They're perfect for jams, syrups, baking, smoothies, and more.

We're planning to open our Farmstand in mid-July with fresh black currants available while supplies last. If you'd like to reserve berries, call or text Kyle at 360-815-2246 with your name, phone number, and the number of pounds you'd like to order.

Black currants will be available in 8-pound and 12-pound boxes. We'll share additional harvest updates, pricing, and availability as the season gets closer.

For now, we're enjoying these early signs of summer and watching the berries develop day by day. 🖤

The Red Currants are beginning to wake up and they are ridiculously cute right now — my absolute favorite time of the year. Watching them grow always reminds me of how beautiful new beginnings can be.

We can’t wait to share this season’s harvest with you — because to us, you’re not just customers, you’re dear friends. ❤️

Woke up to the most peaceful February morning—crisp air, soft mist rolling over the fields, and that gentle early light making the black currants and blueberries sparkle just a little. There's something so magical about these quiet winter moments before the busy season arrives. Grateful for another beautiful start here on the farm. 💜

Even in the middle of winter, these bright red currants bring a welcome pop of color and a reminder that berry season will return. ☀️

Here in Lynden we’re experiencing an unusually mild winter—no snow yet, with daytime temperatures lingering in the 40s and 50s. We’re actually hoping Punxsutawney Phil’s prediction holds true so we get the full six weeks of winter our berries need to rest, recharge, and be dormant for pruning. Speaking of pruning… our longtime pruner is recovering from a knee injury, so if you know a reliable, skilled pruner in the Whatcom County area, we’d love a recommendation!

We’re thinking of all our friends and followers in other parts of the country dealing with harsh winter weather right now—stay warm and safe out there.

When the harvest comes back around, we can’t wait to share these tangy-sweet gems again in jams, syrups, and fresh recipes.

How do you like to enjoy red currants? Drop your favorites in the comments—we’d love to hear them! 🍒🌿

Enjoying the winter sunshine and views!

Winter on the farm: no berries to chase, just endless space for zoomies and muddy paws. These two think the off-season is their VIP playground. ❄️

Easy Ways to Enjoy Black Currants Right Now:

Smoothie? Jam? Sauce? Compote? Black currants (McCormick’s 2026 Flavor of the Year!) are so versatile with frozen berries. Try blending them for a healthy dose of sunshine this winter. Simple, delicious, nourishing.

One of our family’s favorite ways to enjoy currants is a simple compote—just simmer the berries with honey and water. It’s especially comforting when anyone’s feeling under the weather, offering a sweet, nourishing boost we all need this season.

For the whole family, nothing beats a smoothie! We love adding in a handful of black currants with blueberries, raspberries, and banana. They bring a beautifully deep, earthy richness and a wonderfully healthy flavor.
