What you don't know when you start a homestead is how slowly you make progress. Trying and failing so so many times, either because you didn't know enough, or because the Texas weather has other plans and you lose peach trees and raspberry canes to drought, pears to a crazy windstorm, and brussel sprouts to a freakishly warm winter π But there are times when you can see how far you've come; eating eggs from our chickens is such a simple thing, but it's often the simple things that mean so much.
We planted 16 blueberry bushes 3 years ago, and it's been hard work battling ice storms, insane heatwaves, and warm winters that seriously impacted the amount of chill hours available.
But today we ate blueberry waffles made with eggs from our chickens, and blueberries from our orchard.
And yes, we test planted wheat this year, so watch this space for Lazy Pines Farm flour, coming soon...ish, if the weather permits π
