Started by Ann Schauman, an art educator of 30+ years, the farm specializes in growing unusual, plants, flowers, berries and produce, often purple which are sold at the Macedon farm stand. We also supply local restaurants, such as the New York Wine and Culinary Center, Lento and Good Luck, and Rochester area florists.

It’s PANSY time again at ANN’S PURPLE PRODUCE!!!!Pansies don’t mind the cold at all so they are safe to put outside right now. What a selection too! Hanging baskets ($15), Pansy Planters ($10), Pansy 4/packs ($3), and individually potted Pansies ($1.50 each.) There are small Forsythia bushes available too for only $5 each! (You know, they are the bushes covered in yellow flowers in early Spring. And they grow quickly!) So come on out to our self serve stand @ 1206 Nolan Rd, Macedon! Open daily. 🌼

ANN’S PURPLE PRODUCE is hopping with the last of the lavender bundles ($5), plus lavender wands ($8)and sachets ($2)and now bundles of spearmint for your iced tea ($3), and gorgeous, golden Tansy bundles perfect for drying ($5). Fill an empty garden spot with a striking red caladium ($4)! Also from Shady Lane Farm in Macedon there is organically grown produce: 5 garlic bulbs for $4, sweet Walla Walla onions $1 each, and red Norland potatoes for $2/bag. And lastly there are still some terrific indoor succulents/cactus $3 each. Stop on by! 1206 Nolan Rd, Macedon.

It’s finally Spring!!!! And ANN’S PURPLE PRODUCE is OPEN for the season with perennial Bleeding Hearts ($15) and Primroses ($4). Both come back each year! And there are lots and lots of PANSIES! I went out to pick a few yellow and purple peppers for the stand, and I came back with all these treasures! The golden and brownish purple tomato in the bucket is called Alice’s Dream. The huge golden tomato I am holding is called Accordian and weighed in at almost 2 lbs! Thank you Baker Creek Seeds for keeping me totally entertained growing new and unusual produce this season! (PS-if you have never seen a Baker Creek Catalog search one out. They are always stunningly beautiful and so interesting. They travel the world for looking for heirloom seeds.)

Last year my grandson, Charley asked why my business was called ANN’S PURPLE PRODUCE. I explained how I used to grow mostly purple produce, purple flowers and purple plants for markets and restaurants. Since I’ve scaled back and only have the farm stand now, I’ve cut back on growing purple stuff. Well, Charley noticed! So this season I’ve upped my game a bit and have gotten back into discovering purple produce. Look at these beauties!

Brighten a shady spot with a planter of various colorful leaf coleus (annuals) or different shades of Heuchera (aka Coral Bells) which are perennials and come back each year! I just love using these in my gardens. Looking for a little gift for someone? How about a small hanging planter of streptocarpella which can grow outside in summer and inside in the winter…or a sweet basket or tea cup of pansies?
