UPDATE AND SALE...
Ever since we announced our intentions to open Bad Little Brewing Company in Machias, circumstances have been challenging. Negligent project management, COVID-related supply issues, inflation, and several bad actors in town ultimately tanked business once summer people and visitors left the area. Our business plan was solid and we tried to navigate the labor confines of the grant, which were released only mid-August, but if you don't have enough "butts in seats," it just won't work.
We have also reached our limit with the negativity and slander and don't have the heart and stamina to continue ignoring the relentless, uninformed, and unfair attacks. New rumors have been circulating, even by some local people who supported BLB. We aren't going to condescend ourselves to respond to ridiculous claims and petty rumors. We cannot control how gullible or distrustful people are, but we can state the facts: By no means are we making money off this venture; in fact, we are losing money, and it is only by the grace and generosity of our families that we are where we are. The town of Machias is not losing money either because the grant was closed. The town of Machias actually got its property taxes and sewer bills paid that the former owners did not pay, and it got back the Clark Perry House as a beacon of pride. We are glad that we could positively influence this community while we were here.
That our effort brought joy to so many people, that we were able to save the only residence in Machias on the National Register of Historic Places, and that we emerged with our family and health intact are consolations. We have also helped area entities through our partnerships, we have made some great friends, and we have the best neighbors anyone could ask for. We hope that people keep visiting Downeast Maine and that those in charge can find a sustainable way for the area to grow while protecting its history, local residents, and natural resources. We wish everyone luck.
As we have gotten our bearings, we have made some decisions. We will not be opening BLB again, and it and the Clark Perry House are FOR SALE. These can be bought together or separately. If you are interested in more information, please email us at [email protected].
