Posting in honor of birth trauma awareness month🤍

People tell me all the time, “Thank God she’s okay though.”

And trust me… we thank God every single day. 🙏🏽 But birth trauma isn’t erased just because your baby is doing well.

I still have a hard time walking into a medical building that has any connection to Lily’s journey. I recently had to take my son to a doctor’s appointment in the same building where Lily had her neuro ultrasounds.

I was sitting in the waiting room with him when my heart started racing. It felt hard to breathe. It took every ounce of strength I had to hold back the tears.

2.5 years later.

NICU PTSD is real. And no one warns you about it. No one educates you about it. No one screens you for it.

We are 2.5 years post-NICU… and yes, things have gotten a lot easier. But I think what you go through as a NICU parent is something that never fully leaves you.

Although I am so deeply grateful our girl is doing well…it still breaks my heart a little when I think of all those special moments we never got with her as a newborn. Just the simple joys of brining a new baby into the world🥺

So, to the NICU parent who is still carrying pieces of that experience long after coming home…

Just know you are not alone. 🤍

Your feelings are valid. Your trauma is valid. 🤍

You can be deeply grateful that your baby is okay and still be affected by everything you went through.

Grief & gratitude can coexist. 🤍
