Friday was an eventful day around the farm.
When we got home on May 29th, our big girl MTwin 2 had finally decided it was time—and she didn’t disappoint.
This powerhouse mama delivered triplet bucklings, all three boys, weighing 8.82 lbs, 7.63 lbs, and 8.50 lbs.
Let that sink in for a minute. Those are triplet weights.
These boys are Bokis, a Boer × Kiko cross, combining muscle, growth, and the kind of pasture durability we value so much. MTwin 2 carried them well, delivered them successfully, and now has her work cut out for her keeping up with three hungry boys.
Some days on the farm remind you just how impressive these animals really are. Friday was one of those days.
Welcome to the world, boys.

Friday afternoon, May 29th, somewhere between picking up kids from CrossFit and getting back to the farm, Dusty decided it was time.
Our first-time freshener delivered a single buckling weighing 9.27 pounds, and she handled motherhood like a pro.
For a first baby, that’s a stout boy, and Dusty made it look easy. One more reminder that around here, babies never seem to arrive when it’s convenient—they arrive when they’re ready.
Welcome to the world, little man. You’ve got some big hoofprints to grow into. 87.5% Boer and 12.5% Savanna buckling

Some does just get it done without a bit of help, and yesterday Gale proved exactly why she’s stayed in this herd.
She birthed two massive bucklings completely on her own, both healthy, thick, and already carrying that powerful old-school Boer build we love to see on pasture.
Buckling 1 — 9.34 lbs
Buckling 2 — 7.72 lbs
Two tank-built boys hit the ground ready to go, and mama handled business like a pro. That kind of maternal instinct, structure, and toughness still matters around here.
Born on pasture.

Yesterday, while thunder rolled through the woods and rain poured down in sheets, Charm disappeared into the forest and decided it was time.
By the time we found her, she was standing over two brand new bucklings like nothing in the world could shake her.
6.90 lbs.
7.10 lbs.
Two strong boys born in mud, rain, and storm clouds to a mama that never asked for help.
Sometimes these ranch mothers remind you that nature was doing this long before barns, lights, and people ever came along.

Fern decided that a nice, clean pasture spot was entirely too boring. She found herself a mud puddle during the morning storms and delivered 2 healthy bucklings right in the middle of it.
Earlier this week, another one of these girls disappeared into the woods during a Southern thunderstorm to have her babies, and now Fern has joined the club. Sometimes I think these does just love the red dirt country so much they can’t help themselves. Give them acres of pasture, and they’ll still pick the muddiest spot on the farm to raise a family.
These little guys weighed in at 7 pounds each and are doing great. Mom is doing great too, although at the moment she’s more interested in catching up on some well-earned rest than cleaning off her muddy masterpieces.
Some babies are born in a barn. Some are born in a pasture.
And some are born as true red dirt country boys.

Rain, mud, and triplets hitting the ground all day here at Not Forgotten Farmstead.
This is Kiko, our 25% Kiko / 75% Boer doe bred back to a 100% Kiko buck, and today she delivered triplets completely unassisted — two doelings and one buckling weighing 6.30 lbs, 7.16 lbs, and 7.10 lbs.
Healthy babies. Calm mama. No intervention needed. This is the kind of pasture-raised maternal instinct and durability we work generations to build.

Rose freshened with triplets today completely unassisted, and this first-time mama handled it like a pro.
Birth weights came in at (all does) 3.8 lbs, 5.18 lbs, and 4.84 lbs. Calm, natural, and exactly the kind of maternal instinct we want to see in a pasture-raised herd.

Dusk freshened May 23rd with twins — a 6.6 lb doe and an 8.8 lb buck — and for a first-time mom, she worked like an old champ.
What makes this one special is Dusk is the only daughter out of my very first goat, Felicia, who passed away last year. I almost can’t explain the feeling of watching the daughter of the goat that started this whole journey for me now standing in the pasture raising babies of her own.
This is why we keep daughters back. This is why bloodlines matter beyond papers and pedigrees. Good mothers leave pieces of themselves behind long after they’re gone.
Felicia may be gone, but today it sure felt like a part of her was still standing out there in the grass. 🖤
