OPE what did I forget to add??!!

Finally got some homemade chicken stock made, but looks like I forgot to add a good splash, or 1/4 cup, of white vinegar to my canning water!

Doesn’t affect the final product, but makes clean, and the jars on my shelf easier and prettier!!

Farm friends--tomorrow’s forecast (9/26) is a little too rainy & windy -- I will not be attending the Mankato Farmers' Market. (Apple Share folks you should have received a text.)

I will be back next Saturday Oct. 3rd.

PLEASE go support the vendors that WILL be setting up! Market is open in the Best Buy parking lot from 8a-12p.

See you next Saturday! In the mean time the farm store is open Tu-Fri 9-7 and Sat 9-2.

Approaching the end of the season has me thinking about the plants I need to bring in to make medicine ✨ this winter.

Comfrey is a star plant in the orchard green mulching trees. I also dry it for a nourishing tea. Today I infused some in oil for making our lovely Knitbone Salve.

Comfrey aka Knitbone is a great musculoskeletal remedy.

She’s wild and bushy. You’ll see comfrey around the base of the apple trees when you visit the farm store. The bees love it!!

I also need to tincture some plantain!! Time is getting short!

The update ya never really want to give, but it is what it is and there is nothing we can do but make the best of it.

It’s slim pickin’s this year, so priority always goes to our CSA Apple Share members.

Why? It’s a lower production year coming off a large bounty two years ago, and a pretty good crop last year, as well as several years of drier conditions. Highest pressure in some areas, sprinkle a little hail over here and there you go. Organic orcharding is not for the weak. 🫣

We have good stuff going all year round, so there is no shortage of ways you can keep buying, and gifting local from us. Baking Apples (seconds) for processing, baking or budget eating remain available.

Chili is already on repeat around here. Fresh tomatoes insist.

Doing myself a favor and prepping spices for the next four batches, tp save a little time.

I love to do this for future me. 😍 It’s also a great way to prep spices, and future meals, in the pantry.

Next I need to get to canning more beans!!

Or maybe you don’t and you’re like what the heck is that?

Purple Cow Organics soil just arrived for winter growing!! Time to get the greenhouse cranked up (now that it’s not 95 and humid every day😄).

Once I plant the first seeds it’s only two weeks to microgreens and pea shoots! (Winter salad greens by November.)
