NATIVE, BEAUTIFUL & EDIBLE!

How did it take me this long to discover the amazing, native American Groundnut vine? The blooms look exotic, the seeds (beans) are edible & the tuber roots are similar to potatoes in taste with 3 times the protein. It also fixes nitrogen in the soil to improve your entire garden. What else could you ask for in a plant?

I can’t wait to harvest tubers in the fall for cooking and planting. I will update with recipes and when I have them potted up for sale!

ROSE OF SHARON HIBISCUS- PURPLE PILLAR

These bloom nonstop all summer and into fall! The light purple double flowers have a hot pink center. It’s a perennial shrub so it will come back year after year. This variety grows fast and gets big, up to 16ft. Easy to care for and beautiful!

DANICA ROSE OF SHARON HARDY HIBISCUS

This is my favorite rose of Sharon! Dark pink buds open to light pink double flowers with flecks of darker pink. Each bloom is a little different. Very hard to find! It’s a perennial shrub (or can be trimmed to make a small tree) so it will come back year after year.

The viceroy butterflies have hatched from their cocoons and the willow tree is springing back to life! They sure do look like monarchs.

Temporarily saying goodbye to my passionflowers- the gulf fritillary caterpillars have arrived to gobble them up! I’m glad they found the vines so quickly at our new house.

I recently bought a beautiful braided willow! A couple weeks ago a viceroy butterfly was flying around the plant. I didn’t think too much of it until I found my little tree decimated. But this is great- I found out willow is the viceroy host plant. There were tons of caterpillars that have gone into cocoon. I can’t wait to enjoy the butterflies that will soon emerge (and for my little willow to regain its leaves)!

So, if you see caterpillars on any plant please leave them! They will not permanently damage the plant and the leaves will regrow. Smile and know you are having a positive impact on your local ecosystem.

Four o’clocks are a great flower for nocturnal pollinators! I saw this sphinx moth by our coral variety last night.
