For reference on the announcement from the President yesterday to import 300,00 metric tons of beef, tariff free, from outside the US (Fox News Flash)

1 metric ton = 2204.6lbs

Just as an average, let’s just assume for round figuring…..These animals are going to be 1000lbs each the day they walk off the boat.

(1) 1000lb animal killed, the day it got here, would hang on the rail at 600lbs (again, adjust the numbers how you see fit…just an approximate

1000lb @ 60% carcass dress= 600lb hanging wt.

600lb @ 50% processing= 300lb USABLE MEAT

So if we’re going to get to 300,000 metric tons of “ground beef” as the Presidents tweet said

300,000 x 2204.6 =661,380,000 lbs (on the hoof) needed

661,380,000 / 300 =2,204,600 HEAD of cattle!!

that would have to be imported
(assuming these animals are 1000lb off the boat)

Draw your own conclusion on what that means for the market, for the producer, for the processor, and for the average American consumer

For how long do they benefit?
And what happens AFTER these animals move through the market

According to Google, 80,000,000lbs of ground beef are consumed in the US each day
