We are a small Iowa flower farm growing multiple cut flower varieties in Central Iowa. We offer You-Pick events early July thru September.

Jester Hill Farm is a small boutique Iowa flower farm growing multiple lavender varieties and cut flowers. We offer U-Pick flower cutting days and additional times by appointment. We have a passion for flowers and hope to continue to learn and grow, follow along on our journey!

Good Morning!!!!! 🌸

What a beautiful weekend we had here in Central Iowa! ☀️ We soaked up the sunshine and woke up to 2” of rain Saturday night 🌧️🌧️🌧️ which equals some VERY happy flowers around here! 🌸🌸🌸

I’m happy to report that we officially finished planting the farm this weekend… with the exception of a few succession plantings and the lavender (more on that below 😉). What a GOOD feeling! Now onto drip lines, staking/netting the dahlias, snapdragons, and lisianthus… and of course, weeding. Because honestly, June on a flower farm is basically sponsored by weeds. 🤣

Unfortunately, our lavender struggled again this year. 😢 We still aren’t completely sure why, but we suspect our very wet early April played a role. We’ll be testing the soil to rule out any issues there too. I’m not quite as heartbroken this year, but I’m still determined to get it reestablished because there is truly nothing like seeing that sea of purple in bloom. 💜 This is when purple becomes my favorite color! And for this pink-loving girl… that’s saying something! 😉

A couple quick updates:

🌸 Opening Day will be Wednesday, July 8th!
🌸 Our hours will stay the same this season:
Wednesdays: 5:30pm - 7:30pm
Saturdays: 9am - 1pm

And finally… for our locals!!!

🌸Guess how many dahlias we planted this year! The closest guess will win a FREE cup of flowers!

For reference:
2 years ago: around 1,200
Last year: around 1,900

And remember… my goal is NOT to keep planting more every year. 😂😆🤣

Currently planted: Lisianthus, snapdragons, zinnias, salvia, marigolds, amaranthus, craspedia, strawflowers, eryngium, echinops, cosmos, feverfew, yarrow, lilies, gomphrena, gladiolus, caryopteris, veronica, delphinium, hypericum, ageratum, rudbeckia, echinacea, baptisia, lupine, celosia, hairy balls, sedum, baby’s breath, eucalyptus, orlaya, explosion grass… and of course, DAHLIAS! 🌸🌸🌸

Just a reminder that our dahlia tuber in person sale is tomorrow, May 16th from 1pm-5pm at the farm.

First come, First serve. All tubers $5 each.

Parking will be in the farm parking lot (2nd driveway, not the house driveway) so you will have a little walk as the sale will be in the big gray shed closer to our house. Logistically the best option due to parking.

Address is:12430 NW 128th St. Madrid. Approx 6 miles North of Grimes on the West side of Jester park.
🌸🌸Please note that 121st St off of HWY 141 has permanently closed and you need to take the Polk City exit now. It does show this on Google Maps if you put our address in.

We take credit cards, cash or Venmo.

We’ve been very busy at the farm and a little MIA on social media 😞😬

All dahlia tubers have officially been shipped- yay! Best feeling ever! 🥳
Planting has begun! Around 5,000 seedlings are in the ground, along with about 500 dahlia tubers- and at least that many (or more!) going in this weekend. Such an AWESOME time of year… I LOVE SPRING!! 💗

🌸🌸🌸🌸Local friends of the farm… thinking about an in person dahlia tuber sale on May 16th from 2-5pm. Message me just so I know if there is still an interest. Tubers will be priced at $5 each!!!🌸🌸

There is so much to share, but first and foremost…

We are truly overwhelmed by your support of our Dahlia tuber sale. Wow. We are so incredibly grateful and humbled by each and every order.

The sale will remain open through mid–late April. Many varieties are still available and many have already sold out (thank you!!), and we’ve removed those from the website to make browsing easier.

🌸 Shipping & Pick-Up Info🌸
Dahlia tubers will ship after the threat of freeze has passed, most likely mid to late April.
If you’re local, we’ll be posting farm pick-up dates and times soon for April as well.

🌸 What’s happening on the farm?🌸

• Seed starting begins next weekend for us. Many growers are already underway, but with my “real job” schedule, we will be starting soon! 😊
• We purchase flower plugs for some earlier varieties so we can still grow these favorites like snapdragons and lisianthus.
• Dahlia tubers are being gently “warmed” so they begin to eye up. Our goal is to have as many visible eyes showing when they are shipped.
• Farm planning- deciding what goes in each row - is nearly complete (one of our favorite winter tasks!).

We’re also updating the website with volunteer dates and times and hope to have that posted very soon.
