That humidity is no joke y’all! Sun is down and it’s still hot. Texas is definitely preheating for summer! 🥵

Our birds have all been released from their breeding pens to run amok free range til the fall. Have seen some side scuffles as they figure out who’s gonna be the boss - but largely uneventful.

We are so thankful for all of our wonderful customers this season! We will have some juvenile birds and adult birds available later this summer!

Dear Future Self,

Next spring - even if you are tired - you MUST continue to collect the eggs.

That is all. ✌️

So MANY babies hatched out by determined Cochin mamas. 😫

Cue Urkel - did I do that?!? Snort 😆

This is who our Silverudds line originated from here in Texas. She is selling out this summer - message her if you are interested!

The time has come to make arrangements for my breeding stock. Please send me a PM and let me know what breed you are interested in [Silverudds, Legbars, Isabella Leghorns]. Need to know approximately how many you would want as well. I have the weekends of June 13/14 and June 20/21 available for pickup so will need to know what day you would be here.

You will need to make sure you have cages to transport them. I will not offer shipping. I still have to get a head count of how many birds I will actually have. Please send message to this page and not my personal account as trying to keep everything in one place.

The guy at HEB said he had never seen anyone buy so many watermelons at once.

You should have seen his look of disappointment when I told him they are for my geese. Guess I should have told him I was gonna soak ‘em with tequila! 😆

Has anyone else experienced this when shipping eggs? Pirate ship bills me additional fees from UPS because they claim my box size wasn’t as stated. I buy boxes 25 at a time and they are all the same size. It has become more and more frequent and I’ve probably lost over $100 in falsely billed UPS fees.

Applying the same “snack guy” approach to tame my dad’s cows! I’m determined that they are gonna love me like my birds do.

Right now they are still wondering who is this crazy lady and why does she keep talking to us?!? 😂

How do I get my ducks and geese to be friendly? They are skittish and they are scared of me.

Step 1: Buy some Romaine lettuce
Step 2: Take a seat!

That’s it! Make time for them. Be snack guy! It’s not hard. If you have them penned up like livestock they aren’t gonna be as friendly. If they can be with you - they will be more like pets!

Edited to add: Dark bill on the Sebbie is just mud! They are little mud puppies! APA Standard goal is orange bills and orange legs. 😆

Talking to a customer turned friend today about what we look for in our grow outs. Like how do we choose the keepers?

I’m looking for a specific body shape and size in accordance with the APA Standard - but I’m also looking at personality and color. I’m really liking this little lady so far. She’s got the body shape, size, and some nice curls. I also prefer a rounded head and chubby cheeks. I have sold otherwise beautiful birds because they didn’t have the gorgeous rounded head.

Whites are easier for me to make cuts. Either they meet the standard or they don’t. Colors are harder. Sometimes if you are working on a specific color - you have to make compromises in the short run. Maybe that bird is a little smaller than you prefer - or wings aren’t perfect. Those are things that can be fixed later down the road. Definitely try to focus progress over perfection. Don’t let the quest for perfection keep you from making progress. Start where you are with what you have - sometimes that’s with someone else’s culls and that’s okay!
