Chris is putting a new floor in our stock trailer. I was in charge of pressure washing and spray painting the rusty parts. Wanted to take this opportunity to talk about hardware disease in waterfowl. When I pressure washed the trailer, a million of these tiny rusted shards went flying all over the driveway. It only takes eating one tiny piece of metal to meet an unfortunate end. Even if it doesn’t cause damage on the way down - it can poison them from inside.

We picked up so many pieces by hand and then put the kids on magnet duty to pick up the rest. Any time you are doing construction - make sure you take time to clean up afterwards!

I have had a few questions about how we supplement with alfalfa and what form of alfalfa we use. We get the big bales of alfalfa from the feed store and I put out a couple bats per day. I don’t think you have to limit it - they will just eat what they want and then wander off like foraging.

You can absolutely mix alfalfa pellets in their feed - but mine don’t like the pellets and they will mostly eat around them. You can see the hay pile is a pretty popular spot to hang out. But I will also mention that your geese may not eat it at first. It took a couple of years before mine decided it was acceptable. Just like carrots or cucumbers - sometimes it takes seeing another goose eating the snack for it to be deemed safe. 🤦‍♀️

If you exhibit waterfowl in Texas you already know that some shows are just not set up well for geese. Some shows require you to bring your own cages if you plan to exhibit geese. Some shows even require geese to be housed outside unprotected from the weather.

That is really hard for us as exhibitors. You are already fully loaded for transport with birds and kids and chairs and shavings - the last thing you want to worry about is providing your own cages and setting up your own cages at the show.

All of that to say Bluebonnet Classic is a great show for waterfowl! They have a whole building dedicated to geese. You can hear them all honking as you pull up! We will be there with bells on - come on out and see us! Especially if you like honkers! 😂

After 10 hours of driving yesterday he is finally HERE! I’ve never oversold my trailer towing capabilities as hard as I did yesterday. It really wasn’t that far by Texas standards, but with the rain and traffic it took the whole dang day!

He’s our first Hereford and he is stinking adorable! Can’t wait for him to grow up and make us some beautiful black baldie babies!

He needs a name y’all! Something country as heck!
