I think it’s interesting how for any sport/ hobby/ field of interest there tends to be its own “language” of terms that you can learn. So I’d like to teach you some of the rabbit terms. But first let’s start with it as a game… (if you know what ARBA means or especially if you have an ARBA #, please refrain from answering) What does it mean if a Rabbit has 3 legs? What’s your most creative guess?

Last Friday we had the pleasure of hosting Novak’s 2nd grade class for the final stop of their field trip! Novak did such a good job with his welcome to the Farm and we enjoyed sharing our sweet animals with everyone. There were smiles and laughs the entire time!

Since my Dad’s stroke, I’ve wanted to help in the tractor or the Combine but someone else has always beat me to the seat. But this morning I told Austin that I could help in one of the two after I got off of work, he pondered it to himself for awhile and then resorted to asking AI which was easier to teach me to drive quickly 😂. Minor details that it’s the one that has auto-steer on the straightaways and I just have to turn it! 😂 But I’m sitting here in this peaceful tractor wondering what Grandpa Joe is thinking, looking down on us and watching how we use AI to make farming decisions and Austin uses YouTube on a daily basis to fix something instead of the paper manuals like Grandpa used to get out! 😂 Regardless, I’m extremely grateful for every little piece of it!

The Fall Rabbit shows are underway! Last weekend we took the camper to Springfield and the kids had a blast staying overnight and then having the camper right outside the show. And then yesterday we went to Coldwater, MI. These last two shows have been some of my favorite ones yet because we are finally putting some of our homegrown babies on the table as intermediates and they’re doing great! We’ve been blessed with some great mentors who have been willing to sell us some great stock to start our foundation with in English Lops, New Zealand’s, Flemish Giants and French Lops! Our homegrown English Lop took Best of Breed out of 46 Elops yesterday and Novak has taken Best Opposite of Breed 2X (essentially 2nd place) with one of our homegrown New Zealand’s. Thank you moreso to the new friends that we’ve made in this hobby, we’ve had a lot of fun this show season already!

We at Bower Family Farm hope that everyone is having a great start to the school year!! At Back 2 School Bash, the kids got to see “Lola the Lop” living her best life!
Mrs. Lederer and I go way back to the point, that I remember driving with her in High School to go pick up our very first English Lop babies when we were in 4-H together 🥰🥰

She reached out to me in the spring asking what I thought about one of our bunnies being a classroom pet and frankly my heart melted! I firmly believe that kids can learn a lot from animals and having one in a classroom has endless opportunities for learning from many directions.
Therefore, with the proper school approval, Lola the Lop was born on our farm in early February. Our kids loved on her for 8 weeks before she went to her forever home with the Lederer’s and she now gets to make kids smile everyday!

Thank you SO much to Mrs. Lederer for the idea and giving her such a loving home and to Austin for making Lola a school cage and a home cage!
We hope that everyone has a great and safe school year!
