This fall, New York dairy farmer, Tyler Beck, from Beck Farms LLC is taking that mission all the way to the New York City Marathon finish line! 🏃‍♂️🥛

Through his “Miles for Milk” campaign, Tyler is aiming to raise $26,200 - $1,000 for every mile of the 26.2-mile race - to help provide fresh milk to families in need across New York. All funds raised support the Fill A Glass with Hope® program that is led by American Dairy Association North East, partnering with Feeding New York State to deliver fresh dairy to local food pantries.

It's corn harvest season! 🌽

This means that we are doing a lot of road travel to get our corn crop from the field to the farm for our cows to eat over the next year.

As we head into a busy time of year on the farm, you may see more tractors, trucks, and other large farm equipment traveling on our local roads.

A few reminders:
⚠️ Slow down when approaching farm equipment
⚠️ Watch for slow-moving vehicle signs
⚠️ Keep a safe following distance
⚠️ Be patient as farmers are working to get the job done safely
⚠️ Only pass when it is safe AND legal to do so
⚠️ Remember that equipment may be turning into fields or driveways unexpectedly

Please use caution and patience when seeing farm equipment on the roads this fall. A little patience and extra awareness can make a big difference. Let’s all do our part to keep everyone safe on the road!

Happy National Truck Driver Appreciation Week!

They’re up early, out in all kinds of weather, and making sure our milk gets picked up safely and on time each day.

Milk doesn’t get from our farm to the grocery store without a lot of people working together and our partnership with our milk hauler is an important first step in getting fresh milk from us to you!

Meet the family members behind our farm! 🐮

Stargo Dairy was started by Steve and Marsha in 1992. Over the years, they welcomed eight children, and the farm naturally evolved into a true family endeavor. Today, four members of the next generation have chosen to build their careers alongside their parents:

🛠 Andrew feeds all of the cows and heifers on the farm and serves as the farm's mechanic.

🍁 April is the farm's calf manager, human resources manager, seasonal bookkeeper and handles all of the marketing and sales for our maple business, Marsha's Maple House.

🚜 Austin's versatility has him all over the place but typically he's found in the fields during our planting and harvest seasons and in the sugarbush for maintenance, tapping, sap collection, etc. during the fall and winter.

🐮 Alex serves as the assistant herdsman on our dairy and is involved with all things cows from milking, breeding, vaccinating and record keeping.

With each family member having different responsibilities and interests within our businesses, it allows everyone to contribute in their own way and make our farm a true family effort. ❤

One of the sweetest things happening on our farm this year isn't just in the barn, it's in our family. ❤

One of our own is expecting her first little one very soon, and as her pregnancy has progressed, we’ve been reminded just how important those first 1,000 days are. From pregnancy through a child’s second birthday, this stage is a critical time for growth and development and good nutrition helps build the foundation for a healthy future.

As a dairy farm, we’re especially proud of the role dairy products can play during this important stage. Milk, yogurt, and cheese provide important nutrients like calcium, protein, vitamin D, and iodine to support both mom and baby. And now, watching one of our own prepare for motherhood and fueling her body and pregnancy with dairy each morning while she feeds calves, makes that mission feel even more personal. 🥛

Here’s to nutritious food, strong moms, growing babies, and the next generation of farm kids! 🥰

Rewind: In August 2020 we built a 3 million gallon manure storage on our farm!

On a dairy farm, 💩 is a valuable resource and having proper manure storage helps us make the most of it!

Here are a few of the benefits of our manure storage:

🌱 Better nutrient management – Storage allows us to apply manure when crops can actually use the nutrients, rather than when weather or field conditions aren’t ideal. Manure returns nutrients to the soil and become part of the next crop that eventually feeds our cows.

🌧️ Less runoff – Properly designed storage helps keep manure contained and reduces the risk of nutrients reaching nearby waterways.

🚜 More flexibility – We can wait for the right soil and weather conditions before spreading, helping protect both the soil and the environment.

🌾 A natural fertilizer – Manure goes from a barn byproduct to a fertilizer that provides valuable nutrients and organic matter that can improve soil health and help crops grow.

Our cows may not know much about crop production, but they sure do their part! 💩
