The farmstead covers one hundred ten acres of woods, pastures and meadows on a ridge above the Muskingham River in Malta Ohio. Malta is nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. The first six years we owned the farm we were busy restoring the farmhouse and nine out buildings as well as erecting fencing in preparation for our livestock. In 2011 we started our beehives. We added the res
t of our livestock in 2013. We now have chickens, hogs, goats (both meat and dairy) and cattle in addition to the hives. We cannot forget our guard animals- one donkey, two dogs, and one barn cat. Tom is in his third year of retirement from manufacturing. During his previous work life he traveled extensively throughout the world which provided him exposure to the lifestyles of various cultures. He found nearly all cultures in the world outside of North America and Western Europe ate goat meat. This started his interest in raising goats. Tom has always had a love of gardening. His parents were both brought up on farms, his father in West Virginia and his mother in Kentucky. These experiences led to Tom's skills in managing the farm and garden. Sherrie was raised in upstate New York and lived nearly twenty five years in Rhode Island before moving to Ohio in 2002. With a graduate degree in clinical social work, Sherries skills are in assisting others to focus on balanced living emotionally, spiritually, physically and mentally. In addition, she is an active assistant with Tom on the farm.
