We close out our global food tour in Latin America. Our final feature of the week is our newest addition to the menu, the Bean and Cheese Pupusa. The pupusa originated with the indigenous Pipil tribe in pre-Columbian El Salvador over 2000 years ago. What started as a vegetarian dish made with corn masa and filled with squash, beans, and herbs has evolved (with Spanish and Mayan influence) to include meat and cheese. During a period of civil war, many people migrated to other countries, making pupusas available to other parts of the world, especially the US. Today, pupusas have been named the national dish of El Salvador and can be celebrated on November 2, which is National Pupusa Day.
Though the featured entree for today is the Pupusa we offer many dishes that originated from Mexico like our Tacos, Enchiladas, Fajitas, Burritos and Nachos.
