Danu Hof

Danu Hof Rooted in Northern Michigan, Danu Hof is a family farm raising pasture-raised pork, chicken, eggs & seasonal produce. Nourishing families. Sustaining the land.

Find us at farmers markets, select retailers, or join our CSA. We are two crazy people with a dream of having and running our own farm. We manifested those dreams October 2017 with the purchase of our home and farm. Here we hope to include you in our journey and share what we are up to.

After a cool, slow start to the season, we’re finally starting to see the momentum of spring roll into summer.

The gardens are growing, markets are in full swing, and we’re beginning to settle into the rhythm of the season. It feels like every corner of the farm is waking up.

Our new breeding herd is getting to know one another and settling into life together. It’s been fun watching them run, play, and figure out their place in the group. Before long they’ll be split into breeding groups and moved out to larger pasture areas for the summer.

The next batch of meat chicks arrives this week, and the brooder is cleaned, prepared, and ready to welcome them. In just a few short weeks they’ll graduate to pasture where they’ll spend their days enjoying fresh grass, bugs, sunshine, and daily moves to new ground.

Out in the gardens, we’re harvesting more each week. Summer squash, and radishes are coming, peas are sprouting and the hoop house is getting flipped. While the season started slowly, we’re finally seeing the abundance that makes summer so rewarding.

Our first CSA boxes have gone out, and it has been exciting to share the season’s first harvests with our members. Every box is a reminder of how far we’ve come since those cold spring days spent seeding trays and watching the weather forecast.

There’s still plenty to do—there always is this time of year—but for the first time this season, it feels like we’re making the shift from preparing for summer to living it.

And after the spring we’ve had, that’s a welcome feeling. 🌱☀️🐷🐥

It was a busy weekend around the farm, with projects getting checked off the list wherever we could.

The Boss and the Assistant Manager teamed up to get the brooder box ready for our next batch of meat chicks arriving later this week. As with most farm projects, having an extra set of hands always helps—even if those hands are a little smaller. 😊

Once the chicks arrive, they’ll spend their first couple of weeks in the brooder where they’ll stay warm, grow strong, and get off to a good start.

After that, they’ll graduate to life on pasture in our chicken tractors, where they’ll be moved daily to fresh grass. There they’ll enjoy sunshine, bugs, and plenty of room to scratch and explore.

For now, the brooder is ready, the Assistant Manager has approved the setup, and we’re looking forward to welcoming another group of chicks to the farm soon. 🐥🌱

One of the best parts of having pigs on pasture is simply getting to watch them be pigs.

Our new breeding herd is together and settling in nicely. They’re stretching their legs, running, playing, rooting around, and enjoying the chance to explore their new space.

They’re also getting an important lesson right now—learning the fence and hot wire before they graduate to larger pasture areas later this summer. A little training now goes a long way toward keeping everyone safe and where they’re supposed to be.

Of course, all the excitement drew the attention of the Farm Supervisor, who had to stop by and make sure everyone was behaving themselves.

It’s hard not to smile watching them race around and enjoy themselves. Moments like these are a good reminder that even on the busiest days, it’s worth taking a few minutes to stop and watch the animals do what they do best. 🐷🌱

Our first Taste of the Farm CSA box is heading out this week!

It’s been a cool and slow start to the growing season here in Northern Michigan, but despite the weather, we’re excited to be sharing the first bounty of the year with our CSA members.

This month’s box includes:
🌱 Spinach or basil
🌱 Asparagus
🌱 Bok choy
🌱 Lettuce
🌱 Spring onions
🌱 Patty pan summer squash
🌱 Baby zucchini

It may look like a lot of green this month, but that’s the beauty of eating with the seasons. June brings the fresh, tender greens we’ve all been waiting for, and before long the reds, oranges, purples, and yellows of summer will be filling future boxes.

Each Taste of the Farm CSA box also includes a farm newsletter, storage tips, and recipes to help you make the most of what’s in season.

Interested in joining the monthly fun? There’s still time to reserve a spot for next month’s box. Reach out soon to get on the list and enjoy a season of fresh, local produce grown right here on our and partner farms. 🌿

Breakfast looked a little different around here this morning.

With rhubarb in season, we whipped up a batch of Swedish pancakes topped with homemade caramelized rhubarb syrup—a sweet start to the day that had the crew pretty happy.

For those leaning toward something savory, we put together pulled pork, egg, and coleslaw sandwiches using leftovers from dinner the night before.

One of the best things about having good ingredients on hand is how easy it is to turn them into a quick meal. Whether you’re craving something sweet or something savory, breakfast doesn’t have to be complicated to be good.

So, which would you choose this morning: the Swedish pancakes with caramelized rhubarb syrup or the pulled pork breakfast sandwich? 🍳🥞
