After a cool, slow start to the season, we’re finally starting to see the momentum of spring roll into summer.
The gardens are growing, markets are in full swing, and we’re beginning to settle into the rhythm of the season. It feels like every corner of the farm is waking up.
Our new breeding herd is getting to know one another and settling into life together. It’s been fun watching them run, play, and figure out their place in the group. Before long they’ll be split into breeding groups and moved out to larger pasture areas for the summer.
The next batch of meat chicks arrives this week, and the brooder is cleaned, prepared, and ready to welcome them. In just a few short weeks they’ll graduate to pasture where they’ll spend their days enjoying fresh grass, bugs, sunshine, and daily moves to new ground.
Out in the gardens, we’re harvesting more each week. Summer squash, and radishes are coming, peas are sprouting and the hoop house is getting flipped. While the season started slowly, we’re finally seeing the abundance that makes summer so rewarding.
Our first CSA boxes have gone out, and it has been exciting to share the season’s first harvests with our members. Every box is a reminder of how far we’ve come since those cold spring days spent seeding trays and watching the weather forecast.
There’s still plenty to do—there always is this time of year—but for the first time this season, it feels like we’re making the shift from preparing for summer to living it.
And after the spring we’ve had, that’s a welcome feeling. 🌱☀️🐷🐥
