🍂 Mancelona Farmers Market This Afternoon! 🍂

We’re all set up and ready to see you at the Mancelona Farmers Market until 6 PM! Stop by, say hello, and stock up on some farm-fresh goodness. 🥚🌶️🥬

Here’s what we have with us today:
🫑 Carmen, poblano, shish*to (green & red), and lunch box peppers
🥬 Brussels sprouts
🌿 Okra
🥚 Farm-fresh eggs

🥩 The coolers are fully stocked with pork and beef! Our chicken selection is getting a little low, but we still have half chickens, leg quarters, and wings available.

🍯 We also have local honey and handmade goat milk soap to round out your shopping!

Come support your local farmers and makers, pick up something delicious for dinner, and enjoy this beautiful fall market season. We’ll be here until 6 PM!

🥣 We’re slowly easing into soup season!

Tonight’s menu: homemade corn chowder, and oh my goodness, it hit the spot!

We diced up one of our smoked pork chops, added the last of our sweet corn, local potatoes, and all the veggies. Then we brought it all together with broth we made from scratch. ❤️

There’s just something about a pot of homemade soup simmering on the stove as the days get cooler. It’s comfort food at its best, especially when you can use up those last tastes of summer and pair them with the cozy flavors of fall.

I think soup season is officially underway at our house! 🍂🥣

🦃 Thanksgiving is just around the corner!

Now, we know we still have Halloween to get through, and then there’s opening day of deer season… which, let’s be honest, should probably be considered a holiday around here! 😂🦌

But while you’re busy planning costumes, getting the hunting gear ready, and enjoying all the best parts of fall, don’t forget about Thanksgiving dinner!

This is our first year raising Thanksgiving turkeys at Danu Hof, and we’d love to have one of ours on your holiday table. ❤️

🐷 Still on piglet watch! 🐷

We’re keeping an eye on this group and looking forward to seeing what the next few weeks bring! We also have a younger boar who will be ready to start learning the ropes this November. It’ll be fun to see how he takes to the job!

And if you look closely, you’ll notice we always seem to have a few hens who prefer hanging out with the pigs rather than the rest of the flock. 😂 Apparently, the pigs make pretty good company!

Just another day on the farm, where everyone has their own plans and favorite hangout spots. 🐖🐓🌱

🍅 Sunday breakfast: one last taste of summer! ☀️

We’re holding on to those summer flavors just a little longer this morning. Sliced heirloom tomatoes topped with creamy quark cheese, fresh basil, a drizzle of balsamic, and good olive oil. Simple, fresh, and absolutely delicious!

And of course, we followed the golden breakfast rule around here: just add an egg! 🍳

There’s something pretty special about taking what’s fresh from the garden and turning it into a slow Sunday morning meal. ❤️

There’s just something about a rack of spare ribs that makes a meal feel extra special! These beauties are slow-cooked until they’re fall-off-the-bone tender, seasoned with a mesquite blend Larry puts together himself. And don’t worry, there will definitely be some BBQ sauce involved, too! 😉

Smoky, tender, messy in the best kind of way, and absolutely delicious. The perfect dinner to enjoy these last few warm days of fall before we settle into soup and comfort food season. 🍂☀️

🐥 Morning checks with our new egg-laying girls! 🐥

One of the things I want you to notice in this video is the difference in the noise level! 👂

When chicks first arrive, there’s often a lot of loud, alert peeping as they adjust to their new surroundings. But listen to them now! ❤️

The girls have settled in, found their food and water, gotten warm, and are comfortable in their brooder. No more calling out for everyone’s attention!

This is exactly what we want to see (and hear!) once chicks have settled in. Calm, content chicks are a good sign that their basic needs are being met.

These little ladies are the next generation of egg layers here at Danu Hof, and we’re excited to watch them grow and get ready to provide fresh eggs for you next summer! 🥚🌱
