Having had more than enough experience with Deacon calves, recognizing dehydration is almost second nature. And apparently it's no different with chickens. Last batch of cornishes in for the year and one of the little ones was not doing too well at pickup. Also the smallest of the group, so that's not helping a lot. Wasn't sure he/she was going to make the night, but here we are, 2 days later. A day of electrolyte/vitamin water and little one has perked right back up. Will probably not be a good grower, the smaller ones always seem to be permanently stunted when it comes to this breed. But that's alright. It'll grow alongside the rest of its "siblings" until processing time.
The box is a little "hutch" type for them so they can choose to be directly under the heat lamp, or a more radiant heat option. It'll be removed in a couple days as they get bigger, but for now they're absolutely loving it.
