Growing storage vegetables for the San Juan Basin Look for a lot more local goodness once the ground is cover cropped and the snow flies later this fall.

Started in the winter of 2011 and located at 7600 ft, Mountain Roots Produce (Mr.P) was started with the goal to extended the availability of locally produced winter storage vegetables through the winter months at above a mile high in the greater Durango, Colorado area. This year's main crops include beets, carrots, golden turnip and rutabaga, with a large 1.5 acre garlic planting this fall and di

versifying into cabbage, celeriac, potatoes, winter squash and parsnip in the 2012 season. Some summer vegetables are available (romaine heads, cilantro, purple top turnips, and summer squash) at local restaurants and health food stores.

Early morning spinach harvests are back!

We haven’t grown spinach for a of couple seasons - leaf miners were giving us trouble so we cut spinach/chard from our crop plan to help break their lifecycle. Seems to have helped - this year’s crop is looking good.

We like to harvest full-size spinach leaves instead of baby leaves. They’re rich and full of real deal spinach flavor.

It’s almost harvest time!

Our first harvest is 2.5 weeks away… and we are excited to have spinach back on the harvest list this spring.

It’s Mother’s Day Weekend and time to give all the Moms extra love ❤️

Growing up we always went to our local nursery with my Mom on Mother’s Day and stocked up on plants for the garden. Such a fun way to spend a family day in May. The weather looks gorgeous and perfect time for planting!

We dropped off a fresh batch of the Seedlings and Dahlia Tubers at earlier in the week! We love the folks at Durango Nursery - they’re so supportive of our farm and a wealth of knowledge. I love visiting the nursery and adding beautiful plants, trees and shrubs to our farm.

Dahlia Update - we got all your Dahlia Tuber Orders shipped earlier this week!

Our Farm Dahlia Tuber Pick-up is this Saturday - April 25th from 10am-2pm. We’re sending out a reminder email w/ directions to the farm later today.

Whew! Springtime on the farm is a little wild, with so many things happening at once. Planting, seeding, weeding, repotting, dahlia shipping, and just keeping crops alive. 17 degrees last weekend was cold!

Grateful our farm crew is back and helping us tackle all these projects. and - you guys rock!
