As we complete our first year as a 1% for the Planet member we wanted to highlight some wonderful nonprofit organizations, who are doing the incredibly important work of tackling some of the world's most pressing issues, that we contributed to both financially and through volunteer time in 2022.

It's important to us that we not only talk about doing good work, but that we put our money where our mouth is. Whatever your capacity is, whether making monetary donations, volunteering your time, advocating for policies that will help our planet, or even just picking up trash in your own neighborhood, what we do matters and we all have the power to make a difference.

One State. Three days. Four islands. Lots of Aloha. We love visiting our retailers from
from Hilo to Hanalei. And when the opportunities allows, sneaking in a round of golf with them on a weekend!

As beautiful as the surroundings are, it’s still a ton of work. Shout out to our Territory Manager, CK, for lugging around 50LBS of samples for each trip, making sure frozen items don’t melt, and getting in and out of rental cars and airports with a smile and a shaka 🤙.

And a big Mahalo Tania at KeHE for always helping us and our retailers navigate the constant challenges of ordering and shipping product to the most isolated islands on earth!

We encourage brands to visit the islands and see for themselves the uniqueness of the islands. Each island, each store, has its own charm. Buying for locals AND for tourists is an art, and each retailer does it so well. If you’re ever staying on the Hilo side of the Big Island, we want to make a plug for SCP Hotel. We hope it’s the future of all hotels (last slide).

Happy International Day of Forests!

Yin Yang Naturals knows how important these ecosystems are and we are doing what we can to protect them. Join us in supporting the Forest Act by calling or emailing your local Senate Representative and voicing your support. This proposed Act will help combat illegal deforestation by prohibiting the importation of products made of certain commodities produced on land undergoing illegal deforestation, and for other purposes.

We are proud to be partnering with Sol Simple - a fruit company that promotes sustainability and regenerative agriculture in all areas of their business. They hire and train people from marginal communities, and they partner with, invest in, and buy their fruit directly from smallholder farms.

Sol Simple is one of the first companies in the world to receive the Regenerative Organic Certification (ROC). They are also a fellow B Corp.

Grand Opening weekend for Bristol Farms @ Irvine Spectrum. A beautiful store, on a beautiful day, taking the shopping and dining experience to a whole new level. It also gave us an opportunity to meet up with some of our brands, like Justin and Mike from Bachan’s!

Here’s an excerpt from a feature in the LA Times:

The new location is almost 34,000 square feet and features seven of its own chef-created restaurant brands. This, Adam Caldecott (CEO) said, is Bristol Farms 3.0. “We are really in this concept trying to elevate ourselves,” said Caldeccott.

The food hall features an artisan fried chicken shop - Horton’s Hot Chicken, a fast casual vegan dining- Rooted Plant-Based Plates, a European inspired café called Heart & Hand and even a full-service restaurant, Viaggio Pizzeria. The latter has outdoor seating, a full bar and a seasonal menu of pizzas and pastas.

The market also has thousands of natural and organic items and full-service seafood and meat counters with a dry-aged cooler. Bristol Farms has made an effort to stock beef from responsibly managed ranches like Richards Grassfed Beef and Regenerative.

“This year marks our 40th anniversary, and Bristol Farms Newfound Market showcases the many innovations we will roll out to the company,” said Caldecott. “With each store we open, we strive to improve and better serve a wide variety of guests who share a desire for flavor, quality and convenience.”
