Our mutual admiration for the cattle industry began at a young age, but hundreds of miles apart and in different breeds. Shane was raised on a registered Simmental operation in Kansas, while Melissa, alongside her sisters, pioneered their way into the cattle business as first-generation Hereford breeders on their family’s farm in Maryland. Though our passions originated through different breeds, w
e were both active members of national junior associations throughout the duration of our junior careers. We have dedicated our efforts to building a strong foundation of functional Hereford and Simmental females that not only go back to our families’ proven donors, but also by investing in genetics from prominent breeders throughout the country. Solid cow families are the core of our program, and together we have traveled many miles to find females that can perform and excel in multiple environments and facets within the industry. As we continue to work alongside both families and their operations, we are proud to put our own stamp on a herd, a place, and a dream that we built — together. We purchased what is set to be the headquarters of Grimmel Schaake Cattle Co. We relocated our herd to the new property and broke ground on a facility to begin utilizing the barn in the Fall of 2022. As the finishing touches are being put on the birthplace of Grimmel Schaake Cattle Co., we are not only excited about where our herd is now in terms of quantity and quality, but excited about the future of this program and where it’s headed.
