Grimmel Schaake Cattle Co.

Grimmel Schaake Cattle Co. Inspired by tradition, driven for the future. Today, we remain strong believers and supporters in youth livestock programs. in March of 2022.

Our mutual admiration for the cattle industry began at a young age, but hundreds of miles apart and in different breeds. Shane was raised on a registered Simmental operation in Kansas, while Melissa, alongside her sisters, pioneered their way into the cattle business as first-generation Hereford breeders on their family’s farm in Maryland. Though our passions originated through different breeds, w

e were both active members of national junior associations throughout the duration of our junior careers. We have dedicated our efforts to building a strong foundation of functional Hereford and Simmental females that not only go back to our families’ proven donors, but also by investing in genetics from prominent breeders throughout the country. Solid cow families are the core of our program, and together we have traveled many miles to find females that can perform and excel in multiple environments and facets within the industry. As we continue to work alongside both families and their operations, we are proud to put our own stamp on a herd, a place, and a dream that we built — together. We purchased what is set to be the headquarters of Grimmel Schaake Cattle Co. We relocated our herd to the new property and broke ground on a facility to begin utilizing the barn in the Fall of 2022. As the finishing touches are being put on the birthplace of Grimmel Schaake Cattle Co., we are not only excited about where our herd is now in terms of quantity and quality, but excited about the future of this program and where it’s headed. We appreciate your interest, and personally invite you to Grimmel Schaake Cattle Co. in Manhattan, Kansas. In addition, we welcome you to view our offering of Hereford and Simmental heifers and steers selling alongside our families every fall, and bulls every spring. We believe in this industry, we believe in these cattle, and we look forward to working with you!

Day✌️views.

Our mentality has always been simple — let babies be babies.

We aim to wean mid to late August every year and take the halter-breaking process slow and steady. Some days we feel a little behind compared to most, but we’re big believers in letting them come along at their own pace.

Happy, healthy, comfortable cattle come first. And we promise, this group selling October 13th is a special one.

Stay tuned as they hit the wash rack, the clippers come out, and we watch these heifers and steers come into their own a little more every day!

We took advantage of a gorgeous weekend to gather and wean calves! The last pasture is complete, and just like that, we’re off to the races. Bring on the fall! 🍂

Happy Birthday, Shane! 🥳

The guy who’s always running 100 miles an hour (especially in his yellow dump truck), learning and trying something new, and dreaming up the next wild idea to keep us on our toes. Thank you for all you do to keep GS moving forward every single day — we sure are grateful for you! 🎉🐮🍻🚜🌾

There is something about the JNHE that fills our cup every single year. A week full of countless belly laughs, very little sleep, unforgettable memories, and time spent with some of our favorite people on our annual “summer vacation”. We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to work alongside the youth of this industry — their passion, determination, and love for the breed continues to inspire us year after year.

Congratulations to all of our outstanding juniors and families! We couldn’t be more proud to see our cattle in the hands of hardworking young people and families who care for them as much as we do. Thank you for believing in our program — we are beyond proud of each of you!

One of the most rewarding parts of this journey is watching GS genetics become the foundation of programs across the country. A special shoutout to the Figge family on their Grand Champion Steer, raised by a previous purchase from us!

Thank you to the NJHA, Team Hereford, the volunteers, sponsors, and everyone who has a hand in making the JNHE a first-class event every summer! We are so grateful to be a small part of the Hereford family. ☀️⛳️💛

Rooted in freedom. Grounded in tradition.

For 250 years, American agriculture has helped shape this nation, and Hereford cattle have long been part of that story. Here's to the people, the purpose and the promise of the next generation.

Happy Independence Day, 🇺🇸
