These three new Riesling wines in our selection are exceptional expressions of the grape from the Pacific Northwest!
Long Shadows Winery is a unique operation focused on international collaboration. Allen Shoup, following his 20-year stretch of leadership at Chateau St. Michelle, started this winery in 2002 with the ambitious goal of featuring the works of winemakers from all over the world to highlight the significance of Washington's vineyards. So far, their collaborations have brought them to work with winemakers from California, Oregon, Italy, Germany, and of course, France - and the results speak for themselves.
Their Poet's Leap Riesling, seen here, is a vivid expression of the grape crafted by German winemaker Gilles Nicault. Inspired by the expertly balanced German Riesling expressions of Armin Diel, he sought to create a Washington Riesling with a similarly perfect balance of fragrance, acidity, and minerality. And we would say he succeeded - come find out yourself!
Brooks Winery is, as the winery themselves put it, "the living legacy of Jimi Brooks." This aspirational Oregon winemaker was an inspiration to everyone he worked with, constantly demonstrating important values in his daily life including a commitment to healing our planet and a constant striving towards kindness and empathy. Unfortunately, Jimi surprisingly passed away in 2004, a short 6 years into his winemaking journey with his own brand. As a testament to his wholesome legacy, their label stars the distinctive Ouroboros design that was pridefully tattooed on Jimi's left arm when he started the winery.
This winery's entire portfolio is made solely with two of Oregon's most classic grapes - Pinot Noir and Riesling. The Bois Joli Vineyard Riesling is a limited production, premium quality off-dry white wine, with a complex-yet-soft profile of ripe stonefruit and a gentle spice. The Dry Riesling is a great value daily-driver for food pairings, with the fresh, zippy acidity of citrus and a salty mineral quality.
