Why are the dogs so tired from gardening when I'm the one that is doing all the work?

Field Update 5/29/26

The weather has been so unpredictable. Unfortunately, we had some very warm temperatures in February and March which fooled the strawberries. They started to grow and then the evening temperatures dropped below freezing and that wiped out the fruit on our early varieties. We do have some later varieties but that part of the field does not have a lot of plants. We will continue watering and weeding, but I am not very hopeful that we will be able to open for strawberry picking this year.

Blackberries - We lost 11 out of 20 rows to rust. The plants that remain look good and have flowers. Flowers = Fruit. They are a bit behind because of the cool spring.

Raspberries - We were able to add more plants this spring. This year looks like it will be good if we get some rain. Right now the grass is browning and we have cracks in the ground like it is the middle of July. Pray for rain!

Aronia - Looks good this year.

Concord Grapes - We see fruit out there. So fingers crossed it will be a good year.

Gourds are growing and the garden is in. Let's hope for some rain!

With all that being said, we will start opening the Country Market Thursday -Sunday 10-2 toward the middle of June. We will stock honey, eggs and our other goodies we usually carry. The animals will be out on weekends for the kids to see. Even if there is not something to pick it will still be nice to get out of the house!

Holy Moly! I just made rhubarb applesauce. Talk about a huge burst of flavor! Applesauce is such a simple thing to make. When you make it yourself you know exactly what goes in. There is also a huge sense of satisfaction making things from scratch!

I did not put cinnamon or nutmeg in mine this time. I did end up adding more sugar because I put to much lemon juice in 🙄. So much for eyeballing! Just taste it before it's done cooking and you can add more spices or sugar to your taste.

If you don't know what to do with rhubarb this would be a good and super simple recipe to try. The recipe is available on the porch with the rhubarb.

PS. Rhubarb is actually vegetable. A good way to sneak veggies into kids!

It's amazing to watch the crop dusters. Their flying skills are quite amazing! And it's hysterical to think that the dogs think they can chase a plane! 😂

After rewatching it, I think she thought he was pulling in and she was going to greet him😂😂
