One of my favorite things about hosting events on the farm is watching people slow down enough to create something simply because it brings them joy.

On Friday, May 29th, we’ll be gathering again for another Paint & Sip here at the farm, and this month’s painting is especially beautiful—a soft, impressionistic “Water Lilies” inspired piece that feels perfect for this season.

Guest artist Shanna Northcott will guide everyone step-by-step, making it approachable whether you paint all the time or haven’t picked up a brush in years.

We’ll provide all paint and supplies, along with water, kombucha, and a few light snacks from the farm. You’re welcome to bring your own beverage of choice as well.

These evenings are always relaxed, creative, and full of good conversation—and we’d love to have you join us.

One thing we’ve learned over the years is that kids are capable of so much more than we sometimes give them credit for—especially when they’re taught real, practical skills.

We’ve participated in the Life Skills Now camp the last couple years, and it’s honestly been one of the most useful online resources we’ve found for our family.

Last year, one entrepreneurship workshop helped inspire both of our girls’ baking businesses. Another led us to implement a bathroom cleaning system where each child is responsible for maintaining one bathroom each week (a surprisingly effective life upgrade 😂).

There’s a huge variety of workshops—from cooking and organization to budgeting, entrepreneurship, communication, and home skills.

And best of all, it helps kids build confidence through actually learning how to do things.

The free online camp runs June 8–12 for ages 5–18.

I’m sure you’ll find at least one workshop that would be a great fit for your child or grandchild.

The hens are back out on pasture, and it shows up in more ways than one.

When chickens have the space to roam, scratch, and forage, they’re able to eat the way they’re meant to—grasses, seeds, insects, and whatever else they find along the way. We still offer a balanced feed, but pasture becomes an important part of their diet this time of year.

And that translates directly to the eggs.

Deeper golden yolks, richer flavor, and eggs that feel more nourishing overall. Not because we’re doing anything complicated—but because the animals are living in a way that supports their health.

It’s easy to think of eggs as all the same, but once you’ve cracked open one from a hen that’s spent her day in the sun, moving across fresh ground, it’s hard to go back.

This is one of the simplest examples of how raising animals well makes a difference you can actually see—and taste.

The dandelions are having their moment right now—and the bees are making the most of it.

So are we.

This time of year, before the fields really come into their own, these early blooms feel like a gift. Bright, persistent, and full of life after a dry winter.

We’ve been gathering a basketful each day to slowly infuse into organic olive oil. In a few weeks, it will become a simple dandelion salve—something we keep on hand for dry skin, scrapes, and all the small things that come with life lived mostly outdoors.

It’s one of those quiet, seasonal rhythms we’ve come to look forward to.

Using what’s already here. Paying attention to what’s growing. Letting it be enough.

We don’t raise seafood on the farm—but we still think a lot about where it comes from.

We’re lucky to be close to Flaming Gorge, where there’s access to kokanee salmon and lake trout. But in this season of life, between the farm, homeschooling, and Steve’s work, getting out to fish just isn’t something we do often.

And beyond that, there are certain kinds of seafood—like halibut, cod, and sockeye—that just aren’t available here.

So each year, we bring a little of that into our freezer.

We’ll be ordering again from Citizen Salmon Alaska , a small, fisherman-direct operation out of Homer, Alaska. The quality is incredible—fish are filleted and flash-frozen within hours of being caught, and you can taste the difference.

If you’ve been wanting to incorporate more high-quality seafood into your meals, this is a really good option.

Use code FFF2026 for 5% off your order, and you can find the link in our bio.

And if you’re local—I’ll be placing our order next Friday (May 1st). If you want to jump in on a group order, just send me a message.

We’re picking up our pork from the butcher next week—and this batch is a little special.

These hogs are from a new Berkshire Mangalitsa sow we brought in last summer, and yesterday we got our first real taste.

We had some friends (and very talented chefs) come up to help us butcher a couple for our own freezer, and had pork chops for dinner that night.

Incredible.

Deep flavor, beautiful marbling, and the kind of fat cap that makes you stop for a second. I’ve got a stock pot of lard rendering on the stove right now—which tells you a lot about this breed.

This is the kind of pork that reminds you what pork is supposed to taste like.

Raised on pasture, no shortcuts—just time, good feed, and animals living the way they’re meant to.

We’ll have cuts available soon once everything is back from the butcher.

Just a quick reminder—my friend Carolyn’s free pantry training is happening tomorrow.

If you’ve been feeling the rising cost of groceries or wishing you had a little more stocked away for your family, this is a really practical place to start.

It’s focused on building a pantry that actually supports your meals—not just storing food for the sake of it.

Last week Steve and I were talking with a group of FFA students about the farm, and one of them asked a question that really stuck with me:

Why do you keep doing all of this… when it’s so much?

And the truth is—it is a lot.

But part of why we started farming in the first place was to grow the highest quality food we could for our family. Living where we do, if we want really good food, we’ve learned we often have to produce it ourselves.

That doesn’t mean everyone needs to farm—but I do think there’s something meaningful about taking small steps toward food security at home.

That’s why I’m sharing a free training from my friend Carolyn on building a more practical, well-stocked pantry—one that actually feeds your family, not just shelves full of extras.

If you’ve been feeling the rising cost of groceries or wanting to be a little more prepared, it’s worth a listen.

Our secret sauce to getting the kids weeding in the gardens? Turning on an engaging audiobook. Last year we listened to almost the entire Wingfeather Saga and today the girls and I started up again as we were weeding in the onion patch with the Dream Keeper Saga. Here’s to happy days of weeding and listening to engaging stories!
