Okay so update time on our cross-state trip yesterday!
Miss Willow went on a bit of an adventure!
The first few weeks after she kidded, it was evident she absolutely hated being a mom. She completely rejected her doeling a few weeks in and barely tolerated her buckling up to weaning a week ago. She didn't want to be milked and had very small teats that were nearly impossible to milk anyways. It was just not ideal for either of us.. she wanted to just be a goat (or dog 😂) and not do farm stuff!
Fast forward to a couple weeks ago when my friend Amanda reached out asking about available goat kids for a lovely place her daughter rides horses at called The Fowler Center. I wasn't sure who I was keeping and selling yet, so I told her I'd let her know. Within 24 hours, I had the realization that they actually would be the perfect place for Willow!
The Fowler Center for Outdoor Learning is a fantastic non-profit in the thumb of Michigan that provides amazing programs and activities for children and adults with disabilities, including summer camps and weekend respites! They have the coolest 200 acre facility with such a great mission at the heart of it all! I knew Willow was a perfect fit! She just wants to be loved and pet and spend all her time with people without having to be a production goat. And the Fowler Center has no shortage of people who love to interact with their various farm animals (and amazing staff too)! They also have a sweet wether named Johnny who lost all his other companions recently, so he desperately needed a friend. His personality is very similar to Willow's, so I knew they'd hit it off! Turns out they're smitten already after only a day! 🥰
So as much as I absolutely dreaded this day finally coming and have been heartbroken about giving up my Willow girl, my birthday goat (one day apart), one of two that first made me a goat mama... I knew that in order for her to thrive, this was my duty to her to give her the best opportunity to do so. And boy is she going to live her absolute best life! 🥰 I'll certainly miss my girl, but I'm so excited for her future and can't wait to visit her in the future! ❤️
See you again Willow! Be good my girl and show them how sweet and silly you are! 🥹❤️
