A balmy 3 whole positive degrees. Last night we pulled Brownie and Trefoil into the house for a sleep over with Blondie, Burt & Sally. Leo stayed in main barn being a bit older and "ahem" assertive. Again they would be fine in the barn out of the wind on some soft bedding with their moms, however...huddling by goats on immature kids can result in unintentional crushing. So better safe than sorry. The will go back out as soon as we see double digits.

Blondie was inexplicably rejected by her mother after 24-hours, possibly due to Blondies' unauthorized n***y mugging her aunt, who we thought MIGHT take her on but reconsidered.

Tokyo Drift, predictably, left me two bottle babies (available after viability confirmed). They are in good shape A buck (dark)& doe (mask). I saw them and thought Smokey & the Bandit but after consideration Burt & Sally seem more appropriate. They seem to favor the pygmy side of the herd. Also pictured is Blondie, whose mother decided she would rather raise just one very late in the game, also a bottle baby available now.

Lorna Doone, last of Cookies kids is HUGE and the kidding area was not designed to repel fire of that magnitude. She and her two besties were breaking in and chasing out Z, then sitting on Blondie & Brownie Hen & Egg style. We were concerned about a crushing on a cold night like tonight so we pulled the kids in until tomorrow when Melody can monitor them. Z, Tokyo and Munroe are huddled together. With Z complaining about her missing babies. I am exhausted but two solid doe kids are worth it.

Both babies are back with Mom. Blondie, the larger framed kid is the weaker but we have a nice draft free nest for them and Mom. I am always skeptical in bad weather and opt for the safest route, but we have some challenges with the weather, work schedules and life in general. Hoping we can get through this cold night with no newborns or casualties.

Fresh kidding this snowy & cold morning. Twin doe goats! From "Z" who was a bottle baby herself and sister to Tokyo Drift. Blondie & Brownie...Brownie is more robust but both needed a stint in the warming tent. Brownie is now back with Mom but Blodie is a little slow on the draw.

We said goodbye to Glenda and Miracle today. Senior does that gave us lots of milk, lots of babies, many challenges and an experience like no other. We are grateful for the opportunity to live and learn alongside these old hands that started life as bottle babies over one of the coldest and longest winters in our memory. They are buried alongside FB and several other bottle babies that knew of no other world but our farm.
