When you visit my farm, I, unabashedly, promote myotonics. Yes, they are not perfect. No goat breed is. There is always give and take. Just the nature of the breed that stiffens and faints makes them poor commercial goats. Think, loading goats onto trucks. The possibility of them falling over, getting trampled, or even losing transport time are realities in the comercial world. Then, there's the matter of them being slow growers, taking three years to reach full maturity. Nevertheless, this American landrace breed is still here and has become popular because its positive attributes outweigh the negative. Hardy, worm tolerant, good mothering skills, heavy muscling, excellent temperament, an all-around family meat goat that is gentle on your pocketbook. Frankly, I'm prejudice. And, they are pretty. Eye-Candy. They come in all colors, sizes, with short, skirted and long hair, blue eyes, marbled or brown. It is impossible not to fall in love. And the saying, " They are like Lays Potato Chips, You can't just have one" is true.

Recently, I read an article written by Lisa Johnson of Coyote Creek Ranch. It was printed in the February/March 2000 issue of The Goat Magazine. She gives an excellent and thorough history of myotonics. Lisa describes myotonics as "the most gentle and loving breed of goat...". I would have to agree. They are beautiful, inside and out.

WGG Red Ribbon is one of my favorite does. She's out of Sadie Hawkins which is how she got her name. Eons ago, when I was a child, Sadie Hawkins Day at school was special. Young girls wore their father's white shirt with red ribbons tied around each button. It was the only day we could wear pants. Skirts and dresses were the norm. And, while times have changed for us, myotonics still maintain their outstanding qualities. If you would like to see who is available at Webber's Grove Farm, message me and I will send you our updated listing with photographs and pedigrees.

Bucklings were given their first round of vaccinations (CD & T and Pneumonia) and worming medicine. Now comes the difficult part, trying to get kids to stand still for their picture portrait. It's part patience, perseverance and a lot of luck.

It's official! Little bucklings were weaned today. Moms with their baby girls were sent to a new pasture.
